Last night as the snow continued falling in our area, I powered up the garcade and my 4-yr old daughter was out there playing some games with me. She decided to play some Asteroids, and since the game had been off for some time, there were no high scores on it. When her game ended, it prompted her to enter in her initials. She said "Daddy what do I do here?" I was so stoked. I walked her through locating her initials and then moving to the next category for the three letters. When she had them all in the screen changed to the high scores screen and there were her initials out there.. :D I told her "now everybody can see how great you did in the game!" She was so excited to see that it personally remembered HER. It was a great moment.

That's really cool. After all these years, I still get a thrill of putting my initials up.

So funny ... I had the same thing happen recently.

My 7 year old daughter and I were playing Joust together and at the end of the game, when prompted for our initials, she had no idea what was going on.

I told her she got a high score and showed her how to put her intials in. Then I showed her how she ranked against other "daily buzzards".

Yeah ... she was stoked.

Now she talks about high scores all the time, when before she just played the games probably without even realizing that there WAS a score.

That's the main reason I don't play the Autocross track on my Race Drivin - my kid has the high score and I don't want to bump it off...

I know what you mean. My 4-year-old daughters get pissed off now if they don't get a high score in Joust. I wonder where they get that from...

I get the thrill of knowing I'll never knock the XXI off of the high scores on my Super Missile attack. Thanks Brian you stupid SOB... :D

Yeah my 6 year old is always wondering who "FUK" is and why FUK keeps getting all the current high scores.

BITD, I had the choice of either my real initials: JRK (JeRK, greeeeaaat) or JON. I was never sure which to use, I disliked both: JON was like JOHN, but missing the H (What, did they charge more to add the H back then, or what?) or JERK.

Now I can happily use JAW, so it's all good.

My 15 yo son uses a picture of his 1st place score on Time Pilot as his cell phone wallpaper. I think the future of my games are in good hands.

I would love to be able to experience the joys of having a high score on a machine. Alas, none of my games save highscores. Quite sad.

BITD I always used RIX rather than RIC or RGI. It was fun to see a Gladiator with all RIX and DAV on it.

I am looking forward to beating 89k on Millipede so I can save my initials on there. I don't bother on 3rd thru 7th place since it will be gone the next time I play. I got 85k once, so I will get there?

I do enjoy the High Scores on my MAME cab though. It is nice to still see my score on a game I may not have played in a couple of years.

Since I royally suck at Asteroids (even though I love playing my 3 minute long games and want to own one) I'm just jazzed to hear someone's 4 year old daughter can get a score high enough to put her initials in. I always get about 7 grand and lose my common sense.

Funny thing is I had a blast entering in my highscore initials into a bunch of the games at Crabtown this past Saturday for he n.e. klov gathering...I say that because I was drawn to games I have at my arcade..
