The "I can't believe I just did that" thread

A couple weeks ago my Joust Cocktail died, no power. Looked it over and noticed a burnt wiring harness connector from the heat sink. Yesterday i finally had time to tackle it. Cut off the old connector, crimped on new pins and put a new connector on. Re-flowed solder over the header pins. Put it back together and nada.. not even a flicker in the LEDs that i had before. Metered EVERYTHING. Interlocks, connector from transformer, outlet at wall... there was power to the game but it was dead. After reading schematics and looking this game over for over an hour it dawned on me. I had flipped the master switch off that is on the very bottom underneath the game. DOH ! You cant see it from inside of the game either, it has a little cardboard cover over it. I forgot I had turned it off under there. Wow did i feel stupid. Forgot all about that little sucker . Flipped the switch and Joust lives.

the same thing happened whenever I would put together a new pc. double check all the cards and everything, push the power button and nothing happens. thats when I remember the switch on the power supply. @$#%

Dont you love that!
Ive had about the same thing with interlock switches - they seem to get me every time. Ill forget that some games have them on the coin doors as well.
I never had secured the back door on my qbert, and went to turn it on and nothing. With all the power issues Ive had with it I figured it was something in the brick. I was all over it before I realized someone had just bumped the cab hard enough to open the back door slightly to open the interlock.
:aargh4:

yeah, i did that in my wizard of wor a few weeks ago. i had the front lower panel to check something or other, and closed it but didn't latch it, so the interlock switch wasn't closed. turned it on and said wtf for a few minutes, then bumped the front panel with my foot and said dammit.

I scared myself when my Burgertime didnt turn on once. I flipped the switch, checked all the interlocks, nothing. I was freaking out! Then I caught a glimpse of an empty wall outlet. I took a double-take and looked from the wall to the back of the cabinet and yep, I never plugged it back in....durr.

I once spent hours trying to figure out why the coin door lights on my Centipede were not working. Turned out I just needed two new bulbs. I still don't know how I managed to screw that up
