I found recently using the universal board that sometimes I got false readings as chip not seated well in socket. I had to make sure clip is engaged properly, but I find it shows a pretty steady light on bad chips. A little more testing but I find it very useful and yes the oscilloscope is more useful. I think dedicated soldered chips to test boards will give more accurate tests as well, just without so much fiddling.my 10529 is constantly telling lies about the chip under test, much like a couple old girlfriends it seems it can seldom tell the truth.
I usually use it to confirm my suspicions about a particular chip after I have determined it is bad with a scope, dirty i/c legs & lines stuck caused by other bad i/c's make it a somewhat limited & unreliable tool to me
