The HP 10529a thread

Gerber files for 10529 comparator cards

Here is the address for the card files: http://www.gauck.com/arcade/HP10529a/cards/

The folders named "card 16" and "card 20" are for the dedicated cards, and each capacity is available in the original version (where the via connections are drilled for the output pins) as well as a split-pad version (where the inputs must have their pads bridged with solder blobs).

The folders named "uCard 16" and "uCard 20" are for the universal cards, where a ZIF socket and pair of DIP banks are fitted so any chip can be inserted and the switches configured accordingly. These cards require assembly and the bill of materials are in this thread and/or can be gleaned from the HP manuals (which are in the directory one level up from the cards).

The 16 channel cards (dedicated and universal) are both directly compatible with the original HP 10529a comparator and also work in the expanded 20 channel comparator discussed in earlier in this thread. The 20 channel cards require the 20 channel comparator.

Enjoy!

I guess My copy is kind of on the old side being the 2nd printing from 1976 :(

This was standard issue for my first year in college. I remember having to carry it around to classes. I think the pages in mine have long since yellowed dark. Hard to believe that was 25 years ago now.

In 1995 they required you all to have a book printed in 1988? Was it the last printing?

And yes, Its crazy how time can get away from you.. 25 years.. poof!

Yes, it was the most recent printing...... OR the printing that the school bookstore had stocked up on. Remember, that was before you could look around for College books online. We had to take what they offered.

To be honest, I think I saw a 1991 printing of it somewhere. Maybe it was the digital copy of the TI TTL book. Which you can download as well.

I do like having a paper backup, and it's easier to flip through when your just browsing.

Back then I also contacted all the major semiconductor vendors and had them send me their free TTL datasheet books on CD. I have a little library of those as well. Motorola sent me their complete encyclopedia of books on all their semiconductors. Took up a shelf all by itself.

Is that your test bench? I like the Pac cabaret right there.

And yep. the shelf of databooks adds a little class to the workbench for sure.

She's a Ms PAC upright with Clay kit (and marquee). :)
Yes, my work area is all about "class". That's where all the magic happens. The books are also "JROK approved". LOL

I am still waiting to get a copy of the main board.

Is this a dead project?

Please pm me. Willing to donate to this project to get a main pcb.

So My repro universal 16 boards came in from china yesterday. Douglas says the BOM for the universal 16 boards are in the thread or on his hosted site. To be honest I have gone through all 50 pages of this thread and the folders where he links his gerber files. I am not seeing an actual BOM for his repro universal 16 boards. When his 20 pin comparator was released there was an extensive and updated BOM. I am looking for the same for the 16 pin universal card. Can someone help me out? Very eager to build one!

Am I missing something? I have read the thread and it seems that it sort of fell off completely early last year. Douglas released an image of him reverse engineering the 16 pin universal card then it went silent. Did he sell them all assembled? He released the gerbers and I had it made, I just need to know the component list so I can buy them and assemble the card. I realize I am ... Years late to the party but having this would be a HUGE diagnostic help!

the universal 16 pin should be identical to the original. You just need the manual and parts list from it, I would think. looking at mine it is nothing but a bunch of diodes. I will look later to see if I have the manual for it.

BOM is based on the service manual. You can find it here ->

http://www.gauck.com/arcade/HP10529a/

Generic BOM list, no MFR part numbers, is here ->

http://www.gauck.com/arcade/HP10529a/cards/uCard 16/GerberFiles_ucard16/BOM.TXT

Yeah I saw that file. But Look at it, there is no useful information I can use to populate the card. Also, anything in the manual is almost 50 years old! I was hoping for some modern equivalents that are readily available. I.e. If it has germanium diodes, is there a better modern replacement.

From POST #396:

1x 20 Pin ZIF socket* -> change to 16pin

1x small DPDT switch

60x Diodes (1n270)

2x SPST DIP Slide Switch

1x 240 Ohm resistor 1/4 watt

1x 3 or 5mm LED

Hey VectorCollector, I saw that post as well but that was referring to Douglas' 20 channel universal board, not the 16 channel. The 16 Channel board only has 48 diodes. I dont know if they are parts compatible. That Is why I asked for help on this. I wanted to make sure I was using the correct parts meant for his 16 channel universal board.

Sure, same parts, different quantities. Essentially same circuit as the function is the same.
And the ZIF is 16 instead of 20. DIP sw are 8 per pkg. I believe the diodes are "special", so be careful if you decide to substitute.
