The Horrific Crime Done to a Dedicated Mortal Kombat 2 I Picked up Today!

I got Midway fever right now and my Mint MK1 was looking lonely so I had to rescue this cab!

So yes another MKII with Side Art painted over. This one Converted into a Sega Deer Hunting USA. The MKII Side Art definitely is under the paint so looks like I have a Citristrip project on my hands. Yet to find Citristrip in Canada but I'm sure I will track it down.

The Cab itself is nice and solid no broken corners. Monitor has very little to no screen burn. The inside of the cab is complete Except the pcb. All the original wiring and connectors are there. Happ Power supply, ISO everything is there even the Kick Harness. The Control panel is an original MK1 panel not MKII, the monitor looks like it was also pulled out of a MK1 it has different Midway serial number on it and it's a K7197, but no problem I like my WGK7000's

all in all the cab looks pretty good and should clean up really nice once I start stripping the paint off.

I couldn't find Citristrip here so I used Lift Off 5 (removed most paint, just leave it on longer) and handi-strip by Crown (for the tough patches, leave for like 10 minutes). If you have some REALLY tough spots you can use Tuff-strip, also by crown. Just don't leave the Tuff-strip on longer than 5 minutes. If the side art developes a bubble just pat it dry with a dry rag and it will settle back down to normal in a minute or so. I found all of these at Lowe's. No Home Depot anywhere nearby me.

I'm doing this to a machine that was converted to MK4 and painted black. Don't know why since Raiden is in MK4 but whatever. I am donating the machine to children's charities since I already have a nice MK2 in the house.

Thanks for the recommendations. gives me some options in case I can't find Citristrip either. I asked a buddy of mine today and he says they have Citristrip at local paint shops like Benjamin Moore. I'm gonna check this week, if not I will go with one of the ones you mentioned.

I swear people love painting over MKII Side Art. Even when converting to MK4 like you said LOL

Well look who came out today

The side art is faded and dull and I don't know if that's from the stripping or if it was like that before it got painted over. Doesn't matter I'm just happy I recovered original MKII Side Art. There was so many layers of paint it was crazy.

I e-mailed Citristrip and they told me they no longer sell Citristrip anywhere in Canada. I used "Wipe Out" grafitti remover from Home Depot. Seems to work okay. The good thing about it is the artwork never bubbles up and tears like I heard can happen with Citristrip if you leave it on too long.

Anyway MKII original side art saved... Will touch it up

it will make it a B&^$% if you want to paint it later...but if you wipe it down with tire armor-all it will look really good today.

B.

Too bad there wasnt a hybrid of Samy Deer Hunting and MK.

Could get some sweet "fatality" as your taking the deers head off with your sword ("finish him") ;)

Nice score! I too hope to one day have a dedicated mk2 in my collection. I remember dropping tons or allowance into this game in my youth.
My mind was blown the first time I saw the original MK1 in the arcade at the local mall when someone ripped off liu kang's head with subzero.

You really use Armor All Tire shine on your side art? I might try that after I'm all done touching it up.

understand it will be a mo fo later to paint...but if it looks good and is only faded it will look like brand new, no bs. try it on a junk cab.

My side art looked a bit dull after I stripped it so I used ArmorAll Ultra Shine Detailer spray. Spray on /Wipe off /Buff with a soft towel. Nice and Shiny now!
