So I recently picked up a nice looking Gremlin Hustle machine and while checking voltages on the power supply I suddenly heard voices talking about god!

Somehow, for some reason reading the voltage on this leg, on this chip turns this nonworking arcade game into a radio that is quite clearly tuned into Catholic talk radio.

Didn't even know that was possible.

Also, even with the manual I can't figure out the power supply all that well. I can find the +19 and -19 the manual talks about, but none of the other voltages, the ones that actually make it to the game board.

Yes, through the cab speaker, clear and at a nice moderate volume.

Board doesn't even have any voltage to it, that chip is on the power supply, the voltage is getting lost in the power supply, somewhere after it makes +19 and -19 but somewhere before it regulates that down to +5, +12 and -12. Yes, -12, this machine wants -12 and that is making it much tougher to try to just test the board out.

Post it on Craigslist for the legions of Catholics here in St. Louis. Catholic Radio 1080 AM arcade cabinet. Now you too can play God!

Ugh, trying to get some power to this thing is driving me nuts.

Deciphered the power section on the schematic, which was apparently designed by an obsessive compulsive nut who thought using wire colors in repeating patterns was far more important than matching up wire colors to functions in any way, so the whole power section goes Red, orange, green, red, orange, green, red, orange, etc, even though the pinout on that section is +5, +5, +5, ground, ground, ground, +12, -12.

I wired up a switcher, subbing -5 for -12 (apparently that works for Taito boards). Turned it on with a brand new switching power supply, couldn't adjust the voltage over 4.36 (was getting garbage with a sync problem on the screen though). So I figured, maybe my single wire connections wasn't cutting it and went ahead and wired the power section up fully. The results were the same. I unhooked the -5 from the -12 and the sync problem vanished (giving me random characters and blocks on the screen).

So, I tried a second brand new switcher of a different brand (this one didn't even have -5 on it at all). Wired it up, and it was immediately putting out 9 volts so I shut it down (I have the meter clipped on stuff like this before I even turn it on).

Argh.

Here it is. Isn't in bad shape either.

Yep... that was the nicest machine in my raid I did this past Saturday and I passed it on to him! I'm a good friend ;)

I guess I should make a topic finally about my raid this past Saturday lol. Time to get on that...

That was the first marquee I ever snagged. Picked it up solely because it was $5. Looks nice on the cab. If you need marquee for that thing, let me know ;)
