I'm finding it a bit strange we have so many "HI, I'M NEW" threads popping up in the last 2 days. Has management begun to encourage people to post said "HELLO" posts when they approve them for access now? That's the only thing I can think of that may be happening... usually we don't see so many newbs pop in with "HELLO... I'M NEW" posts... (not that it's a bad thing mind you!)

Hello group my name's roy and im......an......arcade collector, phew glad to get that off my chest!

When I first started up an account here, I didn't post that I was new, I had no idea that was the etiquette here.

I looked for some kinda "introduce yourself" thread. Idk, when I'm new, really anywhere, I like to to say hi. I didn't want to just appear outta thin air.

That said, I did notice like 2-3 more of the same threads almost right after I posted mine.

I'm not following any kind of etiquette, it's just who I am.

^ a lot of forums have those, but there's really no place to do it here. When I showed up I posted about my first cab, but I would have said hi in an actual introduction thread if there were one.

Many forums have a new member introduction thread, unlike this one. A member doesn't see one, but is a member of other boards who have one, so he posts a "Hi, my name is..." thread. Another new members signs up, browses forums, sees an introduction thread, thinks it's normal or expected, and creates one too.

I have no problem with these threads by the way.

Probably a few people joined around the same time, one of them posted a thread, and the others, not knowing protocol (there is none), followed suit.

Nothing wrong with it ... at all ... I wish more would do the same. It was just strange so many came up at once. That's not typical.

:)

EDIT: You bring up a good point though... perhaps the admin/mods could put up an INTRODUCE YOURSELF sticky or something?

I've seen that, only problem is most would just skip over it, I think. But then again, you also don't want threads like mine clogging up the list.

Catch 22?

I don't really think anyone cares. Frizz was just making an observation. If you monitor the Chat About Almost Anything or Politics section, you'll see that there are far worse threads being created than a "Hello" thread. Oh and you're right, I don't read the stickied introduction threads either.

After you have been here a bit, (and if you have been lurking then you already know this) you will find that this board doesn't really try to keep a high signal to noise ratio. There is plenty of room for everyone and goofball threads that are lame get buried pretty quick.

Goofball threads that are awesome are always welcome. :)

Who cares and why does it matter and why make anyone new here feel self-conscious. Just more Frizz spam. No more, no less.

It's the same in the repair thread. Somebody posts about their busted-ass game and everybody with that same game decides to post to see if somebody can fix their game too. It goes in cycles.

BTW: To all the newbies, including the lurkers (and you know who you are), welcome. You are embarking on one of the most frustrating, wallet draining, physically taxing (try moving a Gauntlet DL cab by yourself ) and occasionally rewarding hobby around. Welcome!

Abandon hope all ye who enter here!

hey, I'm one of those newbies!
reading all these cautionary tales, it could be worse, pinball machines will make you broke five times quicker. At least I found a more affordable obsession. I will always love pinball machines, don't get me wrong, but I am trying to recapture my OTHER misspent youth quarterwasters..

Yeah, no worries about "clogging up the list"... the list is MASSIVE...

Can you feel the love tonight?

Web forums seem to be the only place in the world where people who strongly dislike each other somehow manage to talk to each other every day anyway.

Wait, I forgot, there is one more institution where this occurs..

Its called marriage!
