Okay, I admit it, I suck at at Track & Field. Played it in the olden days in the arcade (1983) and my friend always beat me (schmuck). Owned a dedicated one for many years and never got much better. Had parties where folks beat my butt despite the fact that I owned the machine. Now I only play the game on MAME, but the results are pretty much the same, no breaking 10 seconds in the 100 for me.

The fact is, after all the years of trying off and on, I still (usually) produce a better score with one hand than two. I just can't get the rhythm down. Clearly, I could never be a drummer. Yeah, I've seen all the stuff online about guys using 3 and 4 finger methods to Lord-out at the game and yeah, I'm jealous like a mother-fcuker.

So I was wondering, how many guys out there (not just the freaks on youtube) can slay at T & F? So, how about this, if you have access to the game (either dedicated or in MAME), crank the game up on default settings and run the 100 (the first event) 3 times. Report your best time on the survey in the right column of my MAMEblog. It's obviously anonymous (so no embarrassment) and a much better survey if guys of all skill levels do it, NOT just the uber-players. I'll play soon and post the results, good luck.

You can also post your time here, but please post it at my blog as guys from many sources and forums go to my blog and I'd like to have all the data in one place.

Ran my 3 heats, couldn't do better than 10.14 (which is pretty good for me).

Play Hyper Sports instead! NO rhythm required, just pure old-fashioned button mashing fun!

back in the day, my friend worked at an icecream shop. after hours we would play it when everyone left. he would take a commercial blender, remove one blade and rig up pieces of duct tape on the remaining blade so that when turned on it would hit the button at a very high rate of speed. he always had the top time. he tried the hurdles but it was hard to time the jump when the man was running so fast! ed

While most times are clustered around 10.0 so far, we did get a 7.99!

Back in the golden years we had one at the party store down the road a little. If you put a pencil or pen between your fingers putting the pressure on one side you only have to press the other side down over and over the pressure side falls right back on the button.

Good Luck..

Mark..

truly one of the great athletes of our time. (no joke intended, dead serious)

I think FLY's fingers have been genetically altered. :D His fingers are like rubber. I have watched these videos many, many times and tried to do this. Not even close. I guess I will blame it on bad knuckles from old football injuries......

Love the game and glad I have it, but will never come close to FLY's greatness.

Try it going pinky finger first. I only say that since everyone tells me I do it backwards.

Fast fingers run in the family. My brother can play bass like no other. You name it, he can play it, no matter who the musician is. Pops played bass in a band for over 30 years.

My Mom and sister can play piano. Sis played piccolo and flute with speed and precision.

And me, well I was an accordion hero! That and I play games.

Last day to get in your 100 meter time. There has been an interesting distribution of times so far. No one is expected to beat Fly, but in homage to dead 80s arcades everywhere, crank T & F up and do your best (then enter your time in the poll on the blog. It's anonymous).
