I finally got a chance to work on my $350 non-working Star Wars.
The seller told me that he had rebuilt the power supply, but still couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work. He gave me the original supply, and said the one in the system was a spare. So, of course, the first thing I check out is the power supply. I first noticed that several ground lugs weren't connected. Then, I saw that J5 (all the output supplies) wouldn't fit into it's connector. They were wired differently!
The spare Atari supply was for another game, not Star Wars!
I rebuilt the original Star Wars supply and plugged it in. The AC outputs were all good, but the DC is high. I'll have to put a load on that to check.
So, I plugged the supply into the system, and I hear "The Force will be with you!"
WG6102 came up fine, but the game does not play correctly. It jumps between game graphics, test patterns, and random vector patterns.
I suspect he may have damaged the game boards with his efforts. But I'll take some more readings before plugging a spare good set in.
The cabinet is trashed, so it's a complete restore for this game. But I'm pumped!
