The Glimmering Pixel Brewcade (yet another basement barcade)

We're nearing the end of our project so I thought it was about time I shared some construction photos. We're beer home-brewers, so that's where 'Brewcade' comes from. I've really enjoyed other's photos so here are some of the 'Pixel in progress.

I really don't like you people and all your bleeping basement arcades! Enjoy shoveling all that snow!

J/K Looks great ... please keep posting your progress.

Looks like you put up load-bearing beams to replace the vertical posts. What's the vertical pipe in the early pics but is now a hole? Seems like there was some water down in the basement, what's the plan for keeping things dry? Is that a sliding-glass door?

Yes, we sistered the ceiling joists in order to eliminate the posts and to take some bounce out of the floor above.

The pit in the floor was always there, it just may not be visible from all the angles. This is where the house drain meets the city's pipe. There is a clean-out there. The house was built in 1915 and this was a common practice back then. Since the photos were taken I've built a trap door over the pit so we and the city can get at the water meter in there when needed.

The vertical copper pipe was the water into the house. I replaced it with pex inside the wall (properly insulated from the exterior wall of course).

The previous owners had some water issues and raised the grade around the house. We've been here for 7.5 years and haven't had any real issues. We did go the expensive sub-floor route just in case and installed DRIcore.

The large window is just that - a huge, nearly door-sized egress window. We expanded it so we could get the games in and out.

This has turned into a big project. We had the terrible staircase replaced for stability and head-room reasons and I had to move most of the home's plumbing. It was hanging from the ceiling in the area that will have the games. Since the ceiling is only 7' I needed to move the gas and water. I also upgraded the water heater while I was at it. Good times.

Dricore is easy to work with but expensive. It cuts easy and goes in quickly. We didn't put the flooring over it for several months and some of the edges where panels met rose up a bit. I belt sanded it down right before putting the floor in and all seems well.

Greetings from a fellow brewer! We typically do all-grain with a humongous portable HERMS system. Currently fermenting an Irish red and English dry cider.

I originally wanted a kegerator with homebrew on tap in the gameroom. But once I installed blacklight carpet I didn't want all that potential for spillage.

Anyway, cool room!

Keep us updated on your progress!

I just started brewing. I haven't done all grain yet...I might bug some of you for advice soon ;)

I've been homebrewing since I bought my dad a kit for Father's day in 1996. We still do some extract brewing but we dabble in all-grain as well. We just bought a kegerator for the brewcade and are going to have a small bar built around it.

I also grow our own hops which is a lot of fun.

I'll try and take some photos tonight so you can see what it looks like with flooring, drywall and paint.

Thanks, good to know and the sanding. I will also probably have it down for a few months prior to the laminate flooring that will go on top of it. I already priced it out so I'm prepared for the raping lol!

The Plan

Here's what we're shooting for. Let me know if you have a better idea about game arrangement. The corner near DK is reserved for a TV.

Many thanks to gozer.

I should say that the game lineup isn't entirely correct -- we only have one pin today (Black Hole) and the cocktail is actually Galaga/Ms. Pac Reunion.

Here is a view from the bar. I love how Tapper places a beer right on the bar for us.

Very nice so far! I'm jealous of that egress. Can you really get games through it? I have a 180 degree return on my stairs and it's a pain! I want a walkout basement some day.

Keep the pics coming.

Looking great so far!

I love seeing these threads. It's good to have pictures to seee what you had versus what you end up with. Congrats on your progress, and I can't wait to see updates!

Chris

P.S. - You need more pins, LOL

Chris

Needs a dedicated Pac! ;)
Looks great to me. Good luck!
The cocktail seems rather out of place, plus the door could hit it, and would hit you if you are playing.
