I had waited to get some photos to do it justice before I made this post. I actually scored this game(s) on CL about 2 months ago.
I was doing my usual scouring of the listings and came across a listing for a Star Wars and Centipede both for $500. I was thinking to myself, what are the chances they are still available. Luckily the ad was only 20 minutes old and it was a beautiful Sunday afternoon. So, I shoot off an email expecting to hear the usual "they are sold" response and was suprised to get an immediate email back with a phone number to call. So, I call right then and get a lady who says she has these two games from a house cleanout. She claims it was out of a well to do family home and the machines are in great shape. She then says one makes noise, the other does nothing. I say I don't care, I will take them, but i am like 2+ hours away and you will need to hold them till I get there. She says they are mine and she will see me in 2 hours.
I jump in my van as soon as I hang up the phone and try to program my gps and get nothing. It is less than a year old and chooses that moment to lose all map data, so I am traveling blind. I knew the general location, but I figured I would call the lady when I got close. So I gas up, hit the ATM and head towards the highway.
I get on the highway and head south toward NYC. About 1.5 hours in I hit major traffic and eventually dead stop on the highway. I forget that all the vacation traffic is heading back to the city. So. I get on the phone with the lady and assure her I am on the way caught in traffic. She said she forgot to mention this to me and advise me to get off the next exit and she will guide me in. She also tells me she got quite a few calls. Of course that sends me into a panic with visions of people offering more money and me losing the deal. Well it took me another 1.5 hours to get to the next exit thinking the worst the whole time!! I get on the phone and the woman guides me in which was probably another hour to get there.
I pull up into here driveway and there, on top of a small hill in front of the barn sit 2 machines. I hurry out of the van and start checking them out and they are both like beautiful! I break out my wallet and start getting the cash and she says, don't you want me to plug them in?? This one talks. I knew what that meant and said that is OK, it is getting dark and I have to get on the road. So, I load them as fast as humanly possible, thank her and get the hell out of there.
I know people like to use the term HUO a lot, but I have to think these 2 were. Tell me what you think. With the exception of a few small scratches, these game are almost perfect. I am not really a fan of Centipede, so I sold it to my buddy Steve(SRW) for $350. So, I got a total of $150 + $40 gas/tolls. Not bad for Near mint Star Wars and a grail to check off the list.
The Centi did actually work, but had some graffic glitches. The Star Wars plays blind. I just recently drilled out the lock and it looks like it has never been touched. I am told it has the original Amp monitor with a dead red. I am waiting for my buddy Ian(Retrohacker) to take a look at it and fix it ASAP!! On to the photos!!
