the force is strong with this.......ummmm.......dinosaur?

i finally have a "pin row" instead of a lone pin.....picked up a jurassic park and a star wars (DE) yesterday.

i know the term gets thrown around often and is kind of poo-pooed by some, but star wars IS my pin-grail. it's the only pin i played "back in the day".....we'd pile 4 or 5 of us in my buddies truck and drive 20 minutes to play the only star wars we knew about. this pin will NEVER leave my collection (unless i upgrade it after finding some crazy HUO star wars or something. probably have a better chance of hitting the lottery...LOL).

anyway, the pics:

if you notice, the glass on the JP is not original to that machine....maybe escape from the lost world glass?

anyway, it's staying on there for the time being...i don't feel like replacing it right now.

Looking good!

I love me some Jurassic Park, and certainly wouldn't mind having a Star Wars either!

Nice scores. They're both good games. JP is great, if you ask me. I kinda like the glass like that on the JP. It looks like a natural fit.

Nice! I always liked both of those games. And they both look to be in very good shape. I think you scored nicely.

agreed that JP is a great game. and i tend to agree on the glass.....it fits the theme. i don't know if i'll eventually replace it or not, but it's definitely not high on my list of priorities. i kinda like it too.

i am having two issues with the JP right now though:

1) the lower right flipper just bailed on me this morning. i played it all night last night with no flipper issues whatsoever...then, all of a sudden, it just goes out. 9 times out of 10, it won't respond at all...that 10th time it makes a halfhearted effort to move but will hardly move with enough force to even nudge the ball.

2) for whatever reason, the damn control room won't start the modes. it has been a while since i played a JP before this one, but if i remember correctly, once you shoot it into the power shed the control room becomes active and will start one of the 11 or so modes.....even after hitting the power shed, my shots into the control room just move over to the bunker and it kicks it up. that's it.

thoughts?

yeah, cosmetically they are both in good shape...they both have minor wear on the cabs but overall both of the playfields are in pretty good shape. they need a cleaning, but i couldn't resist playing a few games on them first. :)

The glass looks correct to me, what are you referring to?

the glass over the playfield....looks like those stickers that were on an older pin. i was thinking of lost world, but could be wrong.

i've never seen anything like that on a JP.

well, figured out the flipper problem....EOS switch had had it. bottom piece was never making contact after initial hit....matter of fact, it actually broke off in my hands it was so worn.

still not 100% sure about the control room problem....i think the rollover switch is bad. i tried to search for one online...i have no idea where to find one.

That glass comes from "Escape From The Lost World", and I believe those are actually worth a good bit of coin.

Whatever the case, it works very well on the Jurassic Park.

Issue #1 look for service bulletin #53. If the EOS switches are not making contact then the flipper only uses the lower hold voltage to try and move the flipper.

Issue #2: look for service bulletin #43. Most likely culprit is a broken diode on the switch for the control room.

thanks, fellas...

looks like i'm gonna have to replace my (now broken) EOS switch for that right flipper.

as for the control room switch, if it's a "broken diode" i guess that means replacement of that rollover switch? and if so, where do i get that switch from? i searched, but i could have been searching for the wrong thing. i really don't think it's a wiring issue as everything "looks" to be wired properly, but i could be wrong....

You can short out the EOS Switch until you can get a new one and the flipper will work fine, it just will not have the "hold power" that the EOS provides.

No, you do not have to replace the switch (as long as it works) just the diode that is associated with that switch in the switch matrix. If the diode is broken, the switch (even if it works) will not be read. This is a very common problem with JP's (both of mine have had that problem)

dude.....that soooooooo worked. :)

are there any drawbacks to using it like this for a while? i mean, i know it's only a $10 or less fix if i do it myself, but do i need to hurry? it works perfectly....initial kick & hold power.

as for problem #2.....is there any "quick fix" for that? :) i'd be all over it in a heartbeat, lol.

and if i have to replace the switch or the diode, where do i go? seriously, i need a shove in the right direction for that. and, to be perfectly honest, i'm not even sure what you're referring to when you say the "diode." <insert embarrassed emoticon here>

and thanks A TON for the help.

Diode - black with silver band on it. I believe every switch you have has one on it. Most likely a 1N4001 or 1N4004 - verify which one on the faulty switch. Go to radio shack and buy one "or pack of 4 or 25". Remove faulty DIODE remembering what side the silver band is on.
If you have any new extra solenoids laying around with the diode across both lugs you can chop it off and use that instead as the only solenoids you should have diodes on are your flipper solemoids. The newer games moved the diodes to the driver board. 1N4004 is a suitable replacement for a 1N4001.

I am not experienced in pin repair at all, but from how I understand an EOS switch works it will mean that your flippers are using a higher current than they should while you hold them up. Holding them up for a lengthy period of time could cause a problem or wear the coils out... or something, as I said no practical experience here.
