The First Coin-op you hated

Donkey Kong. That annoying du-du dunnuna, du-du dunnuna background noise and jumping sound just get on my nerves. I played it a lot BITD but wouldn't ever want to own one now!

Donkey Kong.

Until this year, I had never gotten past the first board. I would immediately die for stupid things like not being EXACTLY in front of the ladder when I tried to climb up it, or not timing my jump perfectly over a barrel. I was totally intimidated by it as a kid.

That is why I built one for myself. I am going to master this game...

Dragon's Lair was this for me! It was right as you walked in the door of the arcade I grew up playing in! You COULDN'T MISS IT! It was the first $.50 game I'd ever seen. It LOOKED INCREDIBLE!! After I blew through the $1.00 my mom had given me in about 30 seconds flat I still was confused how to play it!! HA!! I thought....what a POS!!!!
Now it is on my top 5 games I want to own!! Probably cause I still remember that day vividly!! :) That was the only place I EVER remember seeing that game back in the day.....

Punch-Out!!

When it first came out, it was 50 cents to play in my arcade. And, after 50 cents went down the drain, you got a zoom-in of the fighters taunting you for losing. Pissed me off more than the Duck Hunt dog ever did.

Once I'd learned the patterns and got quicker with the buttons, I loved the game. This weekend at Disneyland's California Adventure, I played it in Flynn's Arcade. People were getting their asses kicked by Glass Joe after telling friends how good they were at it (too bad for them they meant Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!) :D . I hogged the thing and ended up with 214,000, which isn't too good for me `cause I've been able to get 630,000 or so in the past.

The machine there was in great shape. Kudos to that exhibit.
Love it. :D

My would be probably Van-Van Car set on freeplay. I was horrified to find that game was also in the 48in1 boards. I'll rather shoot my self in the knee than play it again. :(

I'm also in the Dragon's Lair haters club.

Except... I have no interest in owning one. It was pretty much just a memorization game like Simon, with fancier graphics.

Loved to watch other people play it, though. But yeah, 50¢ gone in like 30 seconds or less. Expensive cartoon.

Munch Mobile. Driving and grabbing stuff at the same time was like rubbing your belly and patting your head at the same time.

Naughty Boy. There was one at the local supermarket and it weekly devoured any quarter I put in it. Fast. Naughty, naughty game that was.

Defender for me also and MK trying to learn all the fatalities moves for the first time always had the kids kick my butt in the arcade's

Defender - 1 quarter - 20 seconds - done....

Yeah Back in the day when I played it my hands where to small to span the length of the controls. I remember being in the arcade and just button mashing the crap out of the game and got to the third level I had to have been like 9 or 10 at the time. I had older kids freaking out because I had got that far in the game.

Yup. Defender for me too.

Joust can be that way too, but I eventually got fairly good at Joust.

I really like Joust never played it in the arcade as a kid but the simple controls probably would have been a plus for me back in the day. I cant wait to finish my CT got all the boards and guts together just need to get them in the cabinet and the monitor.

Game I hated in the arcade back in the day Asteroids Deluxe for the Same issued I had with defender couldn't span my fingers across the controls. I remember being absolutely terrified if that god damned killer satellite as a kid. Now I have the game an love it well it's more of a love/hate thing still but I can appreciate it now. It's still frustratingly hard though!

For me, I can distinctly remember a few games that I HATED back in the day. For the most part, I can't think of anything today that I outright HATE, mostly 'cause I haven't been screwed out of a few quarters in years (Arcades are few and far between in southwest Florida, much like in most of the US.)

Joust - I was never good at this game. Always got my ass beat.

Street Fighter II - Oddly enough, I didn't seem to learn any of the moves for SF until I was a lot older. I was never a huge fan of fighting games when I was a kid, mostly 'cause all the technical stuff was beyond me. No matter who I chose, I'd always get beat. And if I won a first round, I'd get beat in the second and third. Screw Vega. He was the worst.

Golden Axe - This was really due to the cab that I played it on. I played on a cab that was in my elementary school's recreational center. It always took a while to get a game going, 'cause we'd have to use something to get credits without paying for them because the coin slots were busted. On top of that, the buttons stuck. I grew to hate the game 'cause I'd always mess up due to the buttons. Now, I really enjoy it. But I know the Genesis title more than the arcade one right now.

Mutant Fighter. I wasted a nickel on it and felt cheated. What a terrible game.

Dragon's Lair for me too. Not enough control or interaction, so it seemed like a waste of money. I didn't enjoy Tempest much either - I never quite 'got' how to play it well.

Missile Command.. its extremely frustrating!

But I must play it anyway. Who else will save our country 1 quarter per missle basically

I plan on picking one up. I hope someone made a freeplay option for it.

There's a factory freeplay setting, but no factory high score save. Missile Command is another one of those games that's not instantly enjoyable for most people. It's frustrating at first since it gets difficult pretty fast, but once you get the hang of it, it's great. One of the most-played games in my collection now.
