UPDATE:

those pictures are now void. On the paperboy I replaced the two 'big blue' caps on the brick and finally finally got a solid +5 volts on the video pcb. BUT (of course there is a but) fuse F3 blows now! its wire runs directly to the isolation transformer and after that I dunno. Anyone know what should I look for to remedy this? Im SOOO close.

its quiet in here today...

It is.. I wish I had something better to do today.. too-nasty to work outside or in the garage. :(

Anyways good luck with repairing your Paperboy! Wish I was more of a tech-e.

Double check that you didn't cross a wire when you replaced the big blues. As obvious of a mistake as it seems, I did that once and it was popping the fuse.

really. Funny you mentioned that because the caps I used to replace the original big blues are considerably smaller, which means their terminals are closer together. Ill check those, but i actually took it a step further and put a few layers of electrical tape between the terminals as well to prevent that.

OOOO, ITS ALIVE!!!!! I re-routed the +5 to a separate switcher and put a new fuse into F3. not it doesnt blow and the game plays!

sooo close now but of course there is always something else. this time the monitor is all white. I know it works because I took it straight out of a 100% working A.P.B. When this happened with my OUTRUN all I had to do was adjust the knobs on the monitor chassis. That didnt do anything. SOO.... what should I look for?

man, where was everybody on this? I GOT IT WORKING!! MONITOR AND ALL! the image looks washed out and goes out when I smack the side of the machine so there is that problem, but for the time being it works!
