The end of Dexter

Matt..
I just want to say Thank You for my FireFox and "one day" Dragon's Lair project.
You saved the former and you have created the possibility of the latter (one day).

I also understand your pain as my projects have also come to an end for similar reasons.
It's just the nature of things.

I'm sad to learn of this, especially since I kept putting off getting one and now it's too late :(
They turn up from time to time. Go looking and Carpe Diem!

It's technically not too late; I still have some more expensive bundles that I will include a Dexter with. But I'm sold out of the cheaper option.

i have been wanting one from the beginning but i have always put it off as i was always able to fix the original players. i haven't read all the details here but if you have anymore available i might pull the trigger now.

When i was at banning, I loved using dexter. We had pinball techs who use to drag the laser disc players across asphalt ground.

The arcade side learned how to fix players. So we had a few Dexter's kicking around for spares just in case we needed them.

Thanks for the wonderful support..

I only have expensive bundles ( https://groups.google.com/g/rulecity-llc-product-announcements/c/BcTD8auYnq0 ) left for sale. These will sell much slower but they have been selling at a rate of about 1 per week.

PS - And how do you know how to fix the players? black magic!

In my early years, 8 tracks were almost phased out. So I get the odd call once a year about attempting to fix these.
Cassettes players always had way too Many parts. Sheet metal levers need to be kept straight. Rubber parts wear out. Plastic parts get brittle.

Running a surplus electronic store has advantages. It exposes a person with lot of highly technical people who repair.

One of my failed deals with HeNe tube laser disc players. I had the opportunity to buy a bunch of failed players. Unfortunately the store I worked for was sold and that deal went dead but I kept in touch with tech experince with these old drives and a laser guy who could gas up and refocuse the tubes.

I was repair a few orginal players for a klov member until he cross the line with me.

So banning got involded we were treated like a unwanted step child. In fact the pinball guy said he going to take over the arcade side in 2 years. If your going to threat me, you better freaken do it NOW and not tell me about it.

I was able to repair most players, just need parts. Buying old non working drives for parts was a God send.

Buying dexters allowed us to work on these players when the players started to have issues.

If I had just more time or better help. We on the arcade side could do better.

Covid caused me unforseen issues also..

Sadly the expensive bundle is out of my range of available funds currently. If there's a way you could un-bundle one so I could just buy the Dexter I'd appreciate it (I'd be putting in in my DL/SA cabinet).

I would buy the bundle and sell off what you don't need. I imagine there are plenty of folk that missed the bus and would like the original price.

OMFG.... I've been in hybernation and awake to hear such news. Matt and Shaun, you were my heros. I have a beautiful Dragon's Lair playing the trilogy only thanks to you both.
Your work is history. Thank you both.
(also very glad I bought a spare pair!)

Thank you Matt for your hard work you put into the preservation of the LD games. I bought mine on the first run and only bought one to keep more in circulation. I just finished building my DL cabinet from scratch after a 20 year work-in-progress project. Putting in my brand new K4900 last week, I cracked the glass neck tube, so yeah. I'm so close, yet so far. I have a ton of extra parts and cables too, but no extra monitor, sigh.
