The Dynamo Cut Corner Control Panel Reproduction Petition Thread

Wow, that's a mouthful.
Anyways, it seems to me that good number of collectors have cut corner Dynamo Control cabs that could use a new control panel. So I was wondering if anyone on here had the resources to reproduce the CPs for the community. I'm looking at you Daviea. But if someone else was better able to reproduce them, suggestions are welcome. I just think its time that these things were available due to the massive amounts of Dynamo HS-1 19", and HS-5 25" cabs that are floating around out there with butchered up control panels that need replaced.

So aside from looking for someone who could and would be willing to reproduce these, lets hear from those that have cabs that would would need one.

I think I would need at least 3 of the HS-5 control panels. Anyone else need one. Let the movement begin. Petition today.

i just had my buddy cut out some metal circles, wire feed weld them in and with a little grinding, a nice fresh blank control panel, cheaper and easier than having a whole new one made in my opinion

Considering that Todd Tuckey has had two NOS 19" ones listed in the for sale section for about three weeks and has only recently sold one of them, I think you may have a hard time getting people to jump on this (at least for the 19's). Todd's were only $50 which is probably less than what you'll have to sell these for.

Anyone thought about contacting Dynamo? They are still in business and might have some sitting around. I think the cab that your taling about is the HS-5. I'd double check that though. They are not going to know from "cut corner" and I think they might have used that panel on another model.

Forgot about the 19" model... I'd be willing to bet they dont have those.

Matt

I did LOL

I was told basically they dont do video game stuff anymore asked about any left over parts or manuals etc willing to buy them. Nope nothing "we have moved 3 times and that stuff was dumped years back"

ICE has some similar cabs and they did have some parts BUT mostly they build to order very nice folks.

Not too long ago, I saw an unhacked example of SF2 cp for the HS-5 go for 90+ dollars IIRC. Considering that most of the Dynamo cabs were made in the 90s, I think there is a sizable market for the blanks. It just seems like many disregard the Dynamo cabs since they were never really a dedicated classic. But you had games like Ghost and Goblins, 1943, Ikari Warriors, and Forgotten Worlds that came dedicated in the HS-1 cabs. So, I do think there is a market for them. There's probably less Pac/Ms Pac cabs still in existence than there are HS-5 cabs. Yet, we still see reproductions for those. And if you could see how hacked some of my control panels are, you would understand. SF2 was converted to MK2, then converted back to some 2 pl. 2 button configuration that doesn't even have the buttons placed properly. They have more holes in them than swiss cheese. And you can forget about finding a single player ambidextrous configuration for the HS-5s for games like Shinobi, Rastan, and Splatterhouse.

I agree. I'd probably be easier and cheaper to find someone local who has parts for sale.I've even seen a few on ebay periodically.Good luck to you though! I love dynamo cabs!

These panels were meant to have a ton of holes for different joystick, button and trackball configurations.

All you have to do is replace the CPO and install plexi over the CPO and you're good to go. If Demogo could post a picture of his OEM CPO, that thing is nothing but holes.

I know those have the holes and they are in very good locations. I'll have to remember to take a picture of a couple of mine and post them hopefully tommorow.

And PS. Just sent off payment for Todd's last one. I thought he had sold it when he posted that they were on ebay and someone wrote that they had purchased and I could not find them on there. But we still need a good supply of repros. Especially for the HS-5's

I'm bumping this thread. I'd really like to see someone take this on as a project. Reproduction cut corner panels would totally KICK ASS.

Especially if they could be 'made to order' with the correct number of holes laid out in the proper configuration for whatever game the purchaser wished to install.

While I can appreciate that Dynamo was trying to cover all different types of games with its pre-drilled holes, there are some games that simply do NOT work with their layouts. (how many hole layouts did they have?)

Neo Geo is a perfect example here. My current Neo Geo Dynamo cab's button layout is terrible - they're in kite diamond shape, which is totally different than the 4 button arch that Neo Geo used.

I think I'll see what my local tech school metal fab shop is up to these days. Maybe they'll be interested in making these panels for me. Really, once you've got the cut pattern down, you should be able to churn out a bunch of these as blanks and then you could laser out the holes later.

Dyna mo hum

My Dynamo cab.
Count me in!
Gotta have one of those new CP blanks, when they are made.

Well, I'm no expert on control panels, but as a metal fabricator myself they seem to be "somewhat" complex compared to a standard panel. IIRC they require additional welding/etc around the cut corner areas instead of just punch and brake work like a lot of regular control panels would. I personally would never be able to tackle something like this since I'm set up for alum and not steel but just figured I would mention they might be a bit labor intensive :)

I have a extra street fighter control panel that I can sell. I had brought it a while back for my hs5 and when I got home it was the smaller one in width. The hs5 is a little under 26" and the one I have is a little over 23".

There does seem to be a market for these as you have said. I sold three I had lying around with absolutely no problem.
