The Drop In Quarters 2.0 - Don't call it a come back.

Some solid progress on the ceiling today. Got the light panels in, removed the old ceiling lights and fan and got the new one installed. Past the halfway mark now, bit of a grind.

I like the ceiling tiles. Been wanting to upgrade the drop ceiling in one of my gamerooms with something similar for a while, but as you know, it's kindof a pain.

Yeah once you have the frame up it's pretty easy, but starting from scratch in a room full of conduit, cables and ducting is a pain. It will be worth it when it's all done, I'm just taking my time otherwise I'll completely burn out on it

The ceiling lights are very seamless. Nice job. Do they change colors as well?

This suggestion got me thinking. I have an addressable string of RGB lights coming in, the type that you put on the eaves of a house. They are 24" between each bulb, which matches the ceiling tile size, I'll experiment and see how well they look when placed behind the white panels.

Had a bit of a problem with a giant cat head. And then the diameter of the cabinet. It was just a tiny bit too big to fit in my wife's car (she wasn't amused especially when I snagged and tore part of the trunk rubber seal) ☹️

In the end I had to offer the guy another $50 to put it in his wife's minivan and drive it 20 mins across town to my place.

Makes me miss my minivan. One of our kids took it to college so I don't have it any time I need to pick something up like I used to!
RIP minivan, unless you're a Kia. May you not get crashed in a drunken haze or have tons of drunk students destroy your interior.

The time to admit defeat has come for my City Connection project that I started over 7 years ago. Losing all of the art files to corruption of the zip archives I had them stored in was too much of a morale killer for me to want to start all over again. Sometimes you just have to take the L and move on.

I cleaned up the cab, got it all tidy and threw an RGB-PI 4 system in there to make it a solid multi. I'll throw it on CL/FB etc to see if anyone takes it, otherwise I may just move it up to the bar where guests can bang out a casual game of Galaga or R-Type on that nice big 25" tube.

Cool candy cab. Not that I've ever searched one out but I always thought if I came across one it would serve as a neat mame cab.
I love it. The form factor is genius, certainly one of the most playable and comfortable cabs I own. But a clean Astro city with no game board will run you $2000-$2500 at market prices which makes it a real commitment. I've added a MiSTer and Jamma board to this one which is glorious but it certainly doesn't fall into the bargain category

Today I installed the Darksoft multi kit for the Deco cassette system. It's a two piece kit, a drop-in bios rom replacement and a daughter board that plugs into the main boards using the security dongle header.

I was surprised there doesn't seem to be free play options in this kit, I do have an unused button on the CP though so I could use that for coin-up.

My Gyruss has been down for a bit so it's my first opportunity for a real world test of my emergency Pi-to-Jamma rescue kit.

I got a converter from PCBJunkie and added it to my Jamma pi board. Loaded the Gyruss rom onto the system and set it to auto boot.

The cab behaves like it has the original board set and the game plays great. Now I can send the boards off to get repaired and still have the game playable.

Do you need one of my 3D printed holders?
You take the two spring steel clips off the security dongle and it will hang perfectly inside the cage.
Gerbers are posted if you have your own 3D printer also.
Let me know if you need one.

thanks. Yeah I have a few 3D printers so at some point I can print one of those cases. Too many projects not enough time as usual.
