So I have had my eye on a DK3 machine that's been sitting for over a year. The machine was sold, paid for,and awaiting shipment arrangements from the buyer. The buyer never went through with the shipping and over a year later his money was refunded. The game is now back up for sale. Now,the buyer paid $385 for the game before shipping which IMO is more than what the game is worth anyway so I dunno what he was thinking on top of paying for shipping. He must have really wanted it, BAD. The cabinet is decent and will be an easy resto and it works. I wanted to ask what you guys would do in this situation...... My first issue is the $385 price still stands to take the game,as I said I think that's high. I know the game isn't all that in terms of gameplay but I want it to go beside my DKJ and DK. Second issue is,if I do decide to take it,after doing the full restoration, and later on down the road I decide to sell it I don't feel that I will be able to make my money back on the cost of the machine or resto materials.

I don't understand the question. Is the question is a Dk3 in ok shape worth $385?

Sounds like you want it just to complete the DK series. Will this make you happy in the long term? I doubt it. You would be better served going after a title you truly enjoy and would play heavily. For most, this is not synonymous with DK3.

Very true,I do want it to complete the series but technically it would not be complete without DKII which I will more than likely will never own. I have played the game in the past and do enjoy it so it would stay and get played. Downside is that it has almost no relevance with the DK series as it is basically a shooter. The game is only worth $250-300 to me but the seller will not budge on the price.

Patience is a virtue, and in my opinion it's better to have more money in the pocket later than waste it on something you might not fully enjoy. I'd wait around for a cheaper DK3 to pop up rather than go for this one. Hell, you might be able to pocket that extra $85-100 if you were to find one cheaper later on and put it towards something else.

Plus, DK3 isn't exactly a must-own game.

Tough call..I can only think of a couple games on my must have list that I would consider paying slightly over value if they came up local...and I'm a cheap bastard!

Ironically enough I play my DK3 more then DK or JR.

I guess it's all about location. For me $385 seems like a standard price on a DK3, but there are some Ninty fiends (not mentioning any names) out my way so they tend to sell higher. I also prefer DK3 to DK and Jr and it gets way more play at parties than the other two.

It doesn't sound like you really want the game and are just buying it to make your DK row look nice. IMO that is not a reason to get a game and use up valuable floor space.

Mine's fully restored (and I mean fully, new vinyl, new paint, NOS artwork, zero blemishes, clean inside and out, 100% working, rebuilt and burn-free Sharp monitor) and I can't get $750 out of it. I have had a few lowball offers, but no one has ever just said, "Phetishboy, I'll fucking take it". The game is a lot of fun when you know how to play it, but it seems not many people do.

Well I do really want the game. I would not have waited for over a year for the game to be available for sale again if I didn't want it. I just had no idea that the asking price was going to be the same as it was in the beginning. I figured since the seller had it forever I would be able to get it at a lower price,Surprise!!! It really is a fun game despite what others say. My floor space isn't that valuable to me as I have room for maybe thirty more games so room is never an issue.

Did you try Ebay Phet? If Todd can pull that price on a "touched up" example there's no reason why you could'nt pull in your asking price if not more for yours. It may be worth a try man. It's a beautiful machine and people love minty ninty's lol

Maybe the buyer of Todd's machine thought it was a super rare version that actually had Mario in it as advertised.

On the price of the machine in question: It sounds like you are willing to pay $300. The extra is about 2 meals at a decent restaurant. Is the chance of not finding another one worth the cost of 2 meals?

Why would you never get DKII? it is the best $80 Donkey Kong add on ever.
