I was wondering I always see everybody on here wanting Tron, but no talk of Discs of Tron, is this the bastard child or something?

From what I can tell, DOT is just very difficult to find.. I've seen many Trons for sale, DOT not so much!

I actually like DOT way better than the Tron game, I just don't know if I'll ever be able to find one...

Well I want both. :) I think Tron is just a more popular game which is why you hear more about it. Discs also seems to be rarer when looking at the number of them the come up for sale. It's kinda strange cause who didn't play killer frisbee after they saw the movie in the theater.

I THINK that Discs of Tron didn't come out until well after the movie came out. The original Tron machine was launched at the same time as the movie. My guess is that the thinking among operators at the time was that Tron was such a good money maker that they didn't see the reason in buying Discs of Tron. Also, Tron features 4 distinct "games" within each level, while discs of tron takes place on just one screen. They may have thought that it didn't have enough "variety" as opposed to the original game. I believe that I had heard at one time that the gameplay from "Discs of Tron" was supposed to be in the original game, but they couldn't pull it off or didn't have enough time to put it in the game. The ORIGINAL concept for a Tron game was that it was going to be a vector. Can you imagine how different that would have been???

I remember playing tron at the YMCA growing up. Only got to see a DOT a couple of times growing up. It was an Environmental and I don't think I played it. Plus it didn't look like it was the best maintained. But most agree, the EDOT is one of the coolest cab setups ever. Its also, one of the heaviest, most difficult to handle cabs ever conceived. I would venture that most collectors would rather move a twin sit down racing game as to move an EDOT. So there is your answer. The game is hard to get to start with. The upright is fun but the environmental is the better game, and not many want to deal with the Environmental. Most lack the room or have to carry it down a basement which would be near impossible. It takes a certain collector to have all the space, game room and fortitude to deal with an EDOT. Hell, I kept a DOT board for 5 years and never ran across the first cabinet to put it in. They're out there, but not that many. And those that have them want way more than most collectors would value them at. To put it in perspective. I have two Star wars cabs, (1UR, and 1CP), a Tron, and a Firefox(all currently working). But no DOT.

I want A DOT real bad! I've never seen one for sale locally. I'm not a fan of Tron, I think the cabinet is very nice but I don't appreciate the game. I've attempted playing DOT in mame, it has such unique controls, owning a real one is almost the only way to properly play this game. From a "BYOAC" kind of perspective, just a push-pull spinner and a properly configured flight stick is over $300 in parts alone and still needs to be tweaked to be a perfect fit in a real DOT.
One game I would LOVE to see/play in person!

There was an enviornmental in the bowling alley in my town growing up. Which in retrospect was odd - it was a pretty small town.

I definitely prefer DOT to Tron.

I should call the bowling alley and see who the op was back then, maybe it's kicking in a back room somewhere (though likely its in a landfill).

I opened my mouth and offered my Dot for sale to a klover in Oregon.I'm going to stick with our deal but man is it hard to let it go! The only good thing is I know where a EDOT is sitting in a warehouse.Problem is I'll have to sell it because it won't fit in my basement.

I fortunately laid claim to one in December, and the deal was contigent on me paying for it over several months and not picking it up until the snow melted. He took me up on it and I should be picking it up in a few weeks!

Loved playing EDOT as a kid. Unfortunately I grew a bit since then. Last year tried to play it and could not do it comfortably. Too damn tall now to fit in the game.

And I thank you for it Taco, you are a gentleman and a scholar. If it makes it any easier, I open up my arcade to the local guys all the time, so it will definitely be appreciated. Seems like every weekend I am having at least one "game night".

I have been looking for a DOT as long as I have been collecting, its right up there on my all time favorite games to play. I have a TRON, but only because it will look really good next to the DOT I will have someday. I like DOT that much more.

i think the rarity is exactly why people don't mention them enough. DOT's a shitload of fun to play, and there are a couple around me i try to play as often as i can, but i don't really expect to find one because of price, demand, and rarity. i'd like one, but don't bother to hunt for one for those reasons.

Discs of tron never did a lot for me game play wise. Probably would have no desire to own a discs of tron that was not environmental. The lighting effects and sounds in the edot make it worth owning.
