Well, since yesterday was the annual "iron bowl", we decided to throw a party and let our friends bring their kids over. We had 6 high school and college age visitors, several of whom were visiting for the first time. Before the "event" I decided to re-arrange some of the games to make things "flow" a little better. Ever since I moved in the Tron LE pinball machine back in September, it displaced a Sega Rally upright that had been sitting in the middle of the room (unplugged and in the way). After shifting games around, I was able to get everything in place.

One of the subwoofers in one of the corners was firing directly into a wall across from it and up into the stairwell. This was because it was sitting parallel to a "Coney Island Rifle", which is followed by a row of pinballs. This causes a lot of localization of the bass and it was noticeable heavier in that corner and reduced as you moved down the wall towards the left channel speaker at the other end of the wall (which is NOT what you want. Bass is SUPPOSED to be "omnidirectional" and you SHOULDN'T be able to tell where it is coming from). The solution was to put the Coney Island Rifle on the other end of the pinballs and shift the first pinball machine into the corner. The subwoofer was just short enough so that I was able to rotate it under the back portion of the pinball (A Cyclone) cabinet so that the bass is now directed into the center or the room (and you can't see it, because it is basically "under" the rear portion of the pinball machine). Another nice benefit of this is the Fact that I was able to move the Cyclone closer to the wall than the Coney Island was, due to the fact that some of the sub is going "under" the pinball, which was not physically possible with the rifle game. So, I ended up fixing the bass localization problem AND ended up gaining some more wall space so that I could add a little room between games on that wall here and there as necessary.

The party went great, as I hooked up an HD box to the projector in the game room, which USED to be in the theater before I upgrade to a JVC D-ILA unit in there. Since it was moved into the game room, it has mostly been used for Wii games, but with 2,200 lumens of output, it worked fantastically for broadcasting the football game so that they could play and keep up with the game at the same time. A good time was had by all...

I am STILL at a standstill with regard to my billiards table setup. I had someone come by in mid-October and give me a $300 deposit (towards a $1,500 purchase price) and the guy has now basically "disappeared". It is vital that I get the table out of the game room, as it does not hardly ever get any use and is taking up an 18 X 14 section of the room that I want to populate with more games, including a number of Sega racers. Times are very strange. Not only did I have the pool table sold, only to have the guy disappear on me, but I have sold the same house THREE TIMES, only to have the deal fall through because people ended up not being able to get the finances together. Everyone who looks at the house (not my residence, but a rental property that I just completely re-modeled to sell) LOVES it, and even though the price is VERY attractive for what you are getting, NO ONE can make the purchase without the deal falling through due to financing.

I am hoping to do another re-arrangement of the game room in time for new years, but unless that Billiards table gets moved out, it may have to end up the way it is for now. I certainly hope not...

I have been meaning to do a "video walkthrough" for some time now. Unfortunately, due to the "situation" with the Billiards table keeping me from putting most (if not all) of my games in one place, I have been holding off. I do like the "changes" that took place after I re-arranged the games a little for the party. It is interesting how much the layout of the games can change the "feel" of the room. As soon as I can get the billiards table out, I will DEFINITELY post pics, at the very least...
