The CRT lives on...

Yea I personally do not and never had liked projection technology. Its not quite as "there" as official panel tech. IMO. And my friend has a very high end one. Went the whole 9 to get the canvas screen the best and everything you can do for its ultimate look. And to me, its nothing compared to my Sony A9G. Honestly, not even close.

Well it can be. Its not yet. And I didn't want to convolute the post... but really there are technologies (supposedly) better than OLED coming soon as well. I am sure one of these will eventually get the ability to do all the attributes we admire CRT for. And this is what I mean by a CRT remake is coming.
PHOLEDs might look a bit more organic like CRTs but I don't think anything will ever look quite the same.

Has anyone games with those expensive ass CRT projectors from back in the day? Always curious about those. Big motherfuckers from the look of it

(Not rear projection, I mean actual projectors. Dont want to confuse the big motherfuckers)

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you here. I've fiddled and fiddled with Mame to accurately mimic a CRT. I've used multiple suggested settings I've found online. While it looks Ok, it just can't mimic the color depth, sharpness, crispness, and overall image quality the CRT offers.

Respectful disagreement is against the rules here...

CRT is dead
Plasma is dead
LPD (Laser Phosphor Display) is dead
OLED is hitting its peak.
QD-LED electro emissive will be the cheapest to produce in a few years.

Those crt projectors are cool. Big individual rgb lens fuckers. Barco and sony made some good ones.

I love CRTs but I don't like working on them because I am TERRIFIED of them.
I find them completely weird and horrifying. My sanity feels threatened by them. Honestly.
No new technology can replicate that.

Acquired most of my 80's arcade vids 30 years ago, have 'em on for a couple of hours 2 or 3 times a month, haven't done any monitor repairs, all still work great thankfully. Might help that they've never moved and had climate control all that time...

Dad managed a local chain of Hi-Fi stores in the 70s. He would regularly bring home new equipment to "test" it out for a week or two. I remember one week he brought home an Advent Videobeam front-projection TV to "test". In our 980 sq. ft. house. It was ridiculous. But I was six and it was awesome to play TV Pong on it.

Yes, I used to work at a conference center back in 2001. We had one in our 600 seat theater with a movie theater sized screen. Sometimes would hook the Xbox up to it… play some halo…. In the front row…

Edit:
The problem with those things was keeping the convergence of the three beams aligned. They always drifted off a bit. First chance I got, I replaced it with a DLP projector. It was kinda cool though. Insanely heavy.
