The construction progress of "The Grid"

I will be posting the construction progress of My basement arcade during the next year. My goal is to have this project completed by Memorial Day....

The following has been completed so far...

Stage 2 - Replaced all windows in basement
Stage 3 - Framed out game room and installed prehung doors

I haven't quite figured that out yet. I would say close to 1100 square feet. My wife was told what I was doing but she decided to give me a hard time when the framing was being done. I told her to walk. It is what it is. We have another half of the basement like this side. However, this will be better suited for the games.

Looks like a lot of room. What kind of square footage is that?

That's a sweet space to have for an arcade. I envy you guys that live in areas where you can have basements. Then again, I probably don't need more space to fill.

i wish i had that much room!! sad part is before you know it, youll be like " i need more room"

heh.. keep up the good work!

Stage 4 - all electrical roughed out
Stage 5 - Insulation on outer walls

Looks like it is ready to rock....

Once my wife saw the progress just the other day....She started arguing with me that she wanted an apartment and that there was no way she was going to allow me to have all that room for games. Well, needless to say I told her to go scratch!

I Bow down, my man

Troy, you 're creating a real paradise on earth

I can't wait to see it finished!

I'm more than happy to help you financially with the games sold to me, my friend

You really deserve it to make this dream come true

I may video tape my wife while I tell her I am extending the arcade to the other half of the basement. You think that would make for a good goof? lol. Needless to say...Her expression was priceless! She really did not know how big it actually was until sheetrocked. She wants an apartment? Then go rent an apartment somewhere else! lol

Stage 8 - Spackle finished
Stage 9 - All sheet rock primed
Stage 10 - Attached Homasote (sound barrier board) in between each floor joist)

Ready to be painted!!!!

My friend and I have come up with a cool design. I have decided to go with 2 shades of blue. 3 walls in the room will be painted in the lighter shade and the 4th wall (main wall) will be a two toned with both shades. What will seperate the two shades will be a heart beat design starting with a flat line and ending with a flat line. The line itself will be an ice cold blue color. The heartbeart will also be painted over with a blue glo solution from glonation.com. The floor will be a tile I picked out from Lowes called Shale Gray. The grout will be white and mixed with the same blue glo mix from glonation. I may even mix the sealant with the same solution. When the black lights are on.....The floor will look like the grid from Tron. I originally wanted to replicate the wall art from that same scene (light cycles) but because there will be games along that main wall the art will be lost. I needed something not too busy but effective....Hence the Heartbeat. The ceiling will be a drop ceiling and contain 6 flourescent fixtures dedicated to black light. The regular light will be 26 high hats on dimmers. I have decided to leave the celing white. I was on the fence about painting it black but I wanted the room to look normal in regular light.

I am tossing around the idea of changing the name from Troycade to "The Grid" or "Gridcade". What do you guys think considering the floor design?

'The Grid' sounds better than any [insert personal or random word here]cade. Nice work so far.
