The classic predicament...."To MAME, or not to MAME..."

As some of you know, I recently picked up my second Defender last night from a fellow KLOVer for $140. Unfortunately, it had more problems than I anticipated. Blown and apparently unreliable monitor chassis, possible board problems and possible power supply problems. The physical condition of the cab isnt terrible. It has rough humidity damage like a lot of Williams cabinets have, control panel is shot, coin door and mechs are all sorts of trouble, and the marquee is somewhat faded. Not to mention I found 7 Mud Wasp nests congregating on the inside roof of the cabinet, which thoroughly sent shivers down my spine all night even though they have been dead for a couple years.

Part 2, I took the monitor out and preformed my first double-bypass tube transplant with my Centipede Cabaret and aside from a little Defender burn-in, looks good as new and I am thrilled as all hell.

So now I am stuck with a monitor-less, partially working (if that), and mediocre condition Defender corpse. Its hard to judge without pics (Which I will post tomorrow), but what do you say? Mame, or no Mame?

Does jrok's multi williams support VGA? If so multi williams that thing. I'd probably still go multi williams even if jrok doesn't support vga. Just find a used standard monitor. I think r5g (Scott) might be out your way. Haven't seen him around here much but he was always able to hook me up for a fair price when I needed a monitor in the past. Would at least be worth a try.

Yes, it supports VGA.

Depends on what you want to get out of it after MAME'ing it. Are you going to put MAME on it for Defender only? If so I think your going to be better off using one of Jrok's boards.

Matt

I pretty much do a Multi-Williams style MAME with any beat up Williams cabinet that I get. That way I can play the Williams games plus several more that don't exist on the JROK board. I also make a separate menu in the front end that features a bunch of classic games that are playable using the MW control layout.

Are you keeping this one or selling it off? It really depends on you personal preferences, and how much time and money you are willing to spend on the project.
