I am certainly not opposed to putting a CRT in there. But, with the burn-in so bad I just figured that the old one was toast. Recapping wouldn't fix that, right?

Yes, the cap kit wouldn't fix the burn-in. No way to fix that except swapping the tube with an old TV

BTW: My timing is so bad. I have very limited space here, so I put the old monitor/chassis which I figured was beyond reasonable repair out with the trash. Sadly now it is gone.

That's too bad. The tube may have had bad burn in, but the chassis was still good. You could probably have sold that for $40 - $50 easily.

Also, after rereading this thread, I think I came across stronger than I intended (or wanted) to a little earlier. I really do appreciate your assistance and advice.
