The Bucky O'Hare project

More parts came today

Today I went back to the control panel because it's what I have handy. I made a few mistakes cutting the holes and stuff but nothing the dust rings and the buttons won't cover. Only stopped because my cordless drill ran down while I was drilling holes in the lexan for bolts. I need to take the lexan back off when I'm done and label the buttons... Just wanted to have all the holes

The cabinet is out of storage and in my basement. It wouldn't go through the door I wanted it to go through so it's stuck in the basement kitchen. I have more clean up work to do but I started to try to fill in the scratches on one side.

I went back to the control panel to mount the Joysticks. Almost done there. Need to screw down the edges of the lexan.

out of shear curiosity why did you spend the time filling the control panel holes, sanding and degooing it instead of just cutting a new control panel? I have been cutting fresh ones when I do my cabs/restores, just always seem faster to me, but maybe im just weird and its actually taking me more time lol

Well I started with a four player X-Men panel that had most of the holes exactly where I wanted them except for some start button holes and someone's idea of a home use service switch/credit button. The two games have the exact same layout so for me it just seemed easier to fill in the extra holes, put Bondo over some of the older patches.(I think that this was a conversion but it's fine) Also I don't have a ton of tools to cut out new wood.

Today I did quite a bit of sanding on this side. I think that I probably have to strip the Vynl but patching the wood needs to happen first. Some patches are pretty bad and I'm going to have to use more Bondo on them before I'm done. The bottom edges are the roughest

Finally got rid of that short cut hacked up control panel. I had to cut alot of wires to do it. Funny thing: I hadn't tried on the replacement control panel until now. Fits like a glove.

I am missing some metal mesh on the front but I did order it

Well I think that I fixed that area

Coming along nicely. Keep up the good work, Bucky o Hare will be here soon, and that's a machine you will cherish and keep for all time. You gonna have to start pulling some all nighters, I want to play this thing at SFGE this year

The tmolding came yesterday so I did the control panel. The rest of is going to be security screws and wire mesh speaker grills. I can't do the cabinet yet because of the bottom edges (Bondo) and I have to paint the sides.

Ok I attempted to make some speaker grills with the wire mesh. I'm not sure that I'm happy with how they turned out but we'll see when the paint dries.

Hell Nawl buddy. Looks like it used to be a shooting gun at one point in its life, but it doesn't need no speaker holes in the control panel. Your gonna have to fill those holes for it to look right.
