I picked up one of my personnel Grails today. (Arcade Legends). In my area these are quite expensive, usually 1200 to 1400 and higher. A guy on Craigslist had it just listed as an arcade game 850.
When I clicked on it I was like Wow that's a great price. I replied with an offer of 500. Not thinking that he would even answer. Well he does answer me with, 600 and it's yours. I'm like flipping out ready to go through the roof. Long story short, I get there and it's pristine. Now I'm loading it onto my trailer and a woman walks by and sees me loading it, she says, do you fix these games because I have a pinball machine that does not work right and we longer use it, would you like to buy it? I said yes I fix them as a hobby and use them for about two years till I get tired of them then I flip them. She gives me her name address and number. I said I live three minutes from here I will call you.
I get home unload my arcade and call her quick. She says come over. I get there and see this beautiful Gottlieb Close Encounter. No flaking on the back glass, and nice play field condition. Her husband starts it up and it plays. He says the right flipper gets weaker the longer you play it. I'm looking up at God and thinking is this the best day of my life or what. Sold, for just 300.

Pinball- Close Encounters

I still have to go back to pick up the Pinball machine yet. When I get it, I will post a picture of that as well.
What a great day!

Awesome and congrats.

Pick up that pin tomorrow. All it takes is for them to mention to a family friend that they sold it for cheap or look at an eBay listing with a crazy high price and they'll back out of the deal. Pick it up immediately.

Cool! I have a Close Encounters, it's a cool game for it's time and the artwork is great.

I paid for it already. They are really nice people. I needed some muscle power for this one. It's in the basement. That's why I did not get the Pinball tonight.

You know you are getting old and the hobby is passing you buy, when an Arcade Legends is someone's classic grail. lol

I was thinking the same thing. Now that close encounters pin is cool game for sure.

One man's treasure and all that. The cool thing about any hobby is you don't have to justify anything to anyone. Cool scores on both counts sir!

Now that's a person like me. Already at a great price, but you still offer less.

I just sold a near-perfect close encounters backglass to a buddy for $100. Do the ground mods on that System 1 if you want to start bulletproofing it. I've had a joker poker on location for over a year and it's been pretty solid.

It is fascinating to watch a younger generation start to define their collector market. Nothing negative about it. And congrats to the OP for finding yours.
