All right everyone. I have been building various style candy cabinets from Japan and China. I have only been using ABS material and metal composites that are shipped to me and then I construct them. I am on back order right now and Have three more to build for customers who seem to like the style I am building.

QUESTION #1 What is the best style candy-like cab that everyone likes to play on?
QUESTION #2 I have been using Sanwa parts, any other suggestions?
QUESTION #3 I am using 29" arcade CRT's and 32" LCD's which do you prefer?
QUESTION #4 Suggestions?

I know that most used 10 year old cabinets can be purchased for around $500-$600 shipped, but from my purchasing experience they are way more dented and worn than the pictures you receive. I sell mine roughly around $900 NEW W/Warranty. Considering what you would have to pay to buy a new one sent to you from Japan $2,139 along with the 60 day wait and no warranty.......who would be interested in these from KLOV?

Pictures will be coming shortly, for now I just want to get some opinions so I can build another one to everyone's feedback that I gather.

Thanks everyone

if you build or built a candy cab its a question you went and defied.how many arcades can you go into and play mame with 4 player controls, with trackball and spinner?well it would be silly to ask what cab has the best controls when you build your own cabs with 4 player setup, ledwiz with flashing beats etc etc.

so asking what candy cab is best or better when you build them seems daft to me.

if you want an opinion to get idea of what people like for your own use ie:so you can build something you think people will like, incorporating some of the features people comment about then thats a diiferent matter when you think about it.as you are putting forward a home build candy cab rather than one built by say sega.
:)

So, no answers to my questions, no need to be rude. I am simply trying to gather opinions on what popular cabs people would like to see in comparison to "CANDY-LIKE CABS" NOT MAME style, maybe if you read the post again you might see things more clearly. Have a nice day.

if you're talking standard resolution monitors, the egret 2 is hands down the best cab on the market. the easy rotate mechanism on the monitor is genius. if you're talking hi-def cabs, then the vewlix is the best. it's just a sexy design.

What do you think about tri resolution monitors that can auto adjust?

the tri-res chassis would be the way to go. most people who buy candy cabs want a one or two cab solution to play all their jamma stuff, so having a monitor that can handle multiple resolutions is ideal. the only problem is that most people that use the wei-ya multi-res chassis in their cabs run into a lot of geometry issues. apparently they are a real PITA to dial in.

I agree with this, and depending on how yours look, may be in the market to pick one or two up.

These cabs really aren't my thing. I don't dislike them, they just don't relate to my arcade experience. Here is what would interest me in buying something like this...

Easy monitor rotation from the front of the machine. Bezel would match cab lines in both vertical and horizontal orientation.

A rack inside to have 4 or more JAMMA boards mounted for quick game swaps.

Room for a computer in a tower case (to run a MAME PC instead of JAMMA if desired).

A standard shaped control mount (rectangular) that mounted into an appealingly shaped control panel surround. This would make it easy build spare control panels and drop them in if you wanted to run games with differing control types. Being able to just cut a few simple rectangles of wood and plexi would be much easier than trying to cut a complex shape.

Basically, a very easily configurable and roomy setup. Since the look doesn't really appeal to me, it has to win on utility.

Well please keep me in mind for the near future. Once I gather enough information and requests I will try to develop a candy platform with a majority of everyone's request all in one, granted I will not be able to include everything, but I will try to get a lot in there. I will only be able to create 10-15 of these designs for KLOV members just under 1K promotional rate for advertising purposes. Basically all platforms will include a survey that is to be filled out at the end of a ten day period so we can improve upon the model and if you pick up locally you will be given 100% satisfaction guarantee or money back certificate. The purpose for this promotion will be to gauge what customers will want and to receive positive feedback from KLOV members. So keep the requests coming everyone

Well, I'd really be glad to do a review, maybe even a video one.

Now that I think about it, I think I'd rather have a rotating LCD screen set up. I know CRT is more authentic, but LCD allows so much more options, and making a rotating one would be awesome. Please keep us posted.

I think with LCD I would not be able to keep the cab under 1K, but hey once I start production I might do one. What about a Flat screen CRT?

The Egret 2's are nice but the rotate mechanism has been known to fail after so many uses. I had a knock-off neo-candy in the past that had the best damn rotate mechanism ever. It was called a Kural 29, so if you ever see the specs on that, find out what mech it used. I have an Impress now which is nice but I would love a Q25. I think the Capcom style candy cabs had some of the best designs as far as looks go. The Egret might have a rotate mech but they look damn ugly.

I would say stick with a CRT. The tri-sync monitors are great but the downside is the low res games look pretty crappy on them. Just like watching old broadcasts on a high def TV. I've played stuff like Neo Geo games on a tri-sync monitor and it looks horrible. TBH, there are not a ton of games out there that take advantage of 31khz except for a decent chunk of the Naomi games and the newer fighters like Arcana Heart Full, Street Fighter IV, KOFXII, and BlazBlue. I'd say if you are building them offer an option to have a tri-sync only if people want it. Having a 15khz/24khz monitor like you find in an Impress is great for most games. Sure Ikaruga or Guilty Gear won't look as good as they do in 31khz, but then the rest of your library won't look blurry compared to your high res offerings. The arcade market is quickly dying and I fear there are not going to be too many more 31khz games produced other than lightgun and driving style games.

The research I have conducted into the rotate mechs is that they fail more often than not. I want my cabinets to last 20+ plus years (properly maintained of course) I will buy a few different models and test them out and probably only install upon request. As far as monitors go I have one that auto switchs between 15K,24K ,31K, and 38K and the games I have tested on it seem pretty crisp as far as switching from 31K to lower.

As far as LCD I might just do 7 cabs with that and 7 with a CRT. The LCD will be perfect for anyone wanting to utilize emulation.

Thanks for all the intel, keep it coming, nice rcognizer BTW

Well the trisync CRT is ok as well, we ar talking about 27" right?

As for the rotate feature, that is a big draw for me, even if they fail after awhile, besides, with proper maintenance, they should last right? I mean, most last a long time in an arcade...

I am kind of torn between the 25" and 29" monitors actually. As far as the 25" are concerned there are a lot of different kinds out there and can be easily found for example; upgrades, replacement, parts, but it is smaller. The 29" is huge compared to the 25", beleive me you notice the extra 4" on it. It also does not warp the low res games as I have seen when people modify there cabs for bigger monitors, it is just the right upgraded size. However obtaining parts stateside for it might be a little difficult. I am leaning more toward the 29" and I will just have some extra monitors and parts for it in the warehouse lying around for warranty issues and such.

I am still reviewing the rotate feature though, I am just worried that with the extra weight of the 29" it might not be the best thing, but I am still working on it.

Id like to see some pictures :)

Count down for pictures

Id like to see some pictures :)

Unfortunately pictures will not be able to be posted until web site is up for LEGENDARY ARCADES (tax, copyright, registration reasons) as soon as it goes up pics will be a plenty. I will however will soon be posting pictures of our competitors cabinets along with specs you all can see where the extra money is going when creating a brand new game as opposed to a used one or cheaply made one.

When anyone gets a chance please check out some of my albums on profile from recent projects, let me know what you think. Thanks

Just a note:

A 29" monitor in Japan is a 27" monitor in the USA....

Those bastards add a few extra inches.

I just went and measured the "29" and your right! It is a little over 27" though and when you set it side by side to a 25" standard CRT you can see a difference. It looks good though.
