The bain of my existence (part Deux) aka Medium res
Ok guys need some help here. As some of you know last winter i purchased one of my grail games, a non working Super Sprint. I knew it was non working as thats the way i like em like to learn something new on how to fix them on every purchase (this last statement will come back to haunt me !) So i got it home and fired her up and monitor came up with random garbage. I took out the boards and clean and reseated chips and tried again. Basiclly the same. So i heard throught the grapevine that someone had a working set. Road trip. I get home and a few days later put the boardset in including the audio board. no sooner do i get around to the front to bask in my Sprint goodness, that i smell SMOKE
. Quickly shut it down, to find that the flyback has gone tits up. Ok now i find out that the k4915 medium res monitor flyback is like hens teeth. Even Bob Roberts, said get a used chassis and swap the one off of that ( they have since started making them ) so i get a used 4900 chassis off of Ebay and its sits in my garage for a while, its cold outside !@! So last night, nice and warm , kids in bed, i swap it out. Nice and easy. i put the whole thing back in the cab, hell i even bolt it back in as ive fixed it . Thats what i think. I fire it up and stand by the back of the cab wearlily and no smoke, tube has a glow!, ok lets go around front..... Nothing, I mean NOTHING. Not even the garbage before. Frustrated i hang my head low and go inside to bed. I had trouble sleeping as all i could do was go over in my head what i did and didnt do. Didnt make any sense. Went out this morning before anyone got up and rechecked everything, i even reflowed it to make sure.... nope. I did hook it up to a regular monitor that i have and i do get a picture, albeit messed up, thats to be expected its a standard res.
I have a brainstorm, or at least a lillte brainshower and remember that someone local is selling a Toobin, one of the 5 games that i know of (what was Atari thinking) that use a medium res monitor.!! Brilliant ill go get that Toobin and swap the monitor out. I went and got it today, and i jut ran the video cable from the SS to the Toobin. Fire both machines up and NOTHING !! no picture just like the original monitor !! WTF !! hook it back up to Toobin works like butter. ok get the regular monitor out just to make sure that i didnt jossle something and have no video feed, yup has a garbled screen but working. ok i have an extra vid cable, lets try that. same , i even tried Toobin to the old monitor, and nothing. I downloaded both the manuals .
the k4915 ( super Sprint) and the k7635(toobin) both have the same hook ups. Red, blue , greeen, ground, vert and horo. IM STUMPED. Please help me before i end up on my garage roof with a rifle(just kidding)
