The Awesome Finds Thread

hehe..... value village?? here in socal the store is called SAVMOR :) super low budge and cash only.

yeah, they have the weirdest pricing system. $1.91 for a game (kinda random) and all the pricing looks like its done with a kids crayola crayon! so professional.

Value Village huh? I never understood their pricing. Nice SSMB. I just sold a cart only on EBay 2 days ago for $33.

I think they use a wax pencil. That's exactly how Value Village does it.

Wax pencil at my local thrift store, too.

Does the $1.91 end up being an even $2 with tax?

No because, I never remember having an even numbered ($ amount) receipt given to me at a Value Village. Think about it though... if tax is 6%+ it would still be over .09 in taxes on $1.91. They have all sorts of odd prices. I've always wondered this and maybe my search-fu is off, but I can't find a reasonable explanation for this.

I miss VV, Use to frequent that place until I moved from Saint Louis. They use a grease pen so it comes off easily. Thank goodness they refrain from permanent markers.

My best finds last year were a Nintendo DS and GameCube (both working) for $2.10 total at a yard sale and a Sears Heavy Sixer (2 goodwill trips for a complete setup) for $12.

(2 goodwill trips for a complete setup) for $12.

Sounds like my thrift store. I went in one day and they had 30 TG16 HU cards, complete with jewel cases and instructions. They had them listed at $3.00/ea and I bought them for that price. However, I didn't have a TG16, so I bought one for $20 off of ebay. Well, I went back a week later and the TG16 with controllers was sitting on the shelf for something like $6.95.
I played them for a while and then ended up selling everything. I netted about $300 after all was said and done.

Yeah, for some reason I was only calculating tax on $1. Here we have 9.25% sales tax.

wow, i dont even know the last time i have seen t16 games at the thrift stores. 30 hucard games is quite a good haul! were there any rare titles in that lot of games??

I found hu-cards at a thrift store in Charlotte NC once... only like 4- the only time I've ever seen them (other than an over priced game store) in the wild. I bought them, and a few months later I found a $9.99 TG-16 console, with no cords at a Goodwill computer works. Only time I've ever seen TG stuff. That stuff ain't easy to find. Also I've never seen a Colecovision anywhere, although I find the games sometimes.

I don't remember most of the titles now. I do remember Alien Crush (love that game), Neutopia...and now I don't remember anymore :D

I think the most I got for one game on ebay was about $45.

You never know what you'll find at these stores. Typically, products fall into a 10 year range, especially for media or games. Every once in a while you'll find something old, such as a couple weeks ago I found Transformers video from 1985. And I NEVER find TF videos at these stores.

Got these in a few days ago. All empty, but good none the less.

Got this in the mail today.

2011 finds

2011 was a pretty bountiful year, here are some finds I found this past year:

I met up with friend I haven't seen since highschool and he gave me a crapload of 2600 stuff including 4 systems! I need to replace the RF cords on some but I might lookup an av mod on them

There was also a 7800 version of PAC man but I don't have a 7800 yet.

Check it out...

The keyboard encoder was dead but Vince Briel's super encoder fixed it no problem! works like a charm now!

C64 find

I came across a Craigslist ad with a commodore monitor for sale for $25 and I turned out that they had a system too. So here's what I found

A C64 Boxed with the manual! this thing was packed in tight, I don't think it's hardly been used if at all. You can still feel resistance of the keys like you are breaking a very thin seal as if they were brand new when you press them!

Monitor and 1541-ii drive too for only $60!! (the monitor color fades to B&W though is that a monitor capacitor? Can someone point me in the direction of troubleshooting which cap it could be?)

VIC 20 find

Found a boxed vic20 for $15! The manager seemed pretty unhappy that someone marked for 15 but I snagged it right away! I figured if captan Kirk calls it the wonder computer of the 1980s it must be good enough for me!

2011 was a great game hunting year indeed.

Other great finds in my game hunting career (keep in mind this was over about the last 5 years, I usually go to thrift stores/used games stores every weekend)
Super Mario RPG $2.50
Chrono Trigger $2.50
Final Fantasy VII $5.00
General Chaos $1.00
(Sometimes they have the new guys price stuff at the used game/CD store and I get lucky.)

This year's garage sale finds have resulted in the following:
Gameboy $2
Gameboy Advance SP $12
Nomad $5

Nice find on the nomad, never sen one under $60

not video game related....

but i did score a big bag of vintage PLAYMOBIL action figures for the kids. the best part was the price....... $1.91 from my good ol' savmor thrift store! seems like thats my lucky number over there.... one ninety one.

yes, i did open them up to check out the bag and play with them here @ work before they go to the kids. make sure they are adult tested, kid approved :)
