Just had a local to TNT cretin call me up and wanted me to provide a COMPLETE list of all the shippers we use so he could get a price to buy a STTNG from someone in Wisconsin who is MUCH cheaper than us!!! I allowed my secretary to give him NAVL's phone number (the most expensive ever) and also World Wide Express, also expensive) and she also suggested she do internet searches on his own. (And of course he will be calling ME when the damn thing does not work!) Anyway, he actually had the nerve to CALL BACK --this time I spoke with him--when he asked if I was the owner, he backpedaled...saying he wants to "get some prices" for shipping...I told him we provide door to door shipping anywhere in the 48 states for $250. He was trying to figure out how to get more numbers...so he tells me he knows of a company in King Of Prussia that does shipping and can I give him that number (Betson) and he just wants to talk to them, but could I also give him other numbers so he can compare prices? I couldn't resist to say I could not find the order for the machine and when did he order it from us...and he then finally said he was getting it elsewhere because we were too expensive! At that point I could help but flip out on him!! Oh well!! Todd from TNT Amusements

I've had very similar experiences when I worked in customer service. People are stupid.

People would come in to our place all the time and ask for the number of our main competitor

Sometimes if they thought our deal wasn't good enough, they would get angry and say they are going to our competitor because they were cheaper or gave more for trade. At (after they left in a huff) I would call the other place and confirm that we did, indeed, have the better deal. A lot of the time the angry person would come back. One time they even said "well, they would have given me better trade, but I was already over here" (not worth it to drive 3 miles straight on the freeway for an extra $20, hahahaha... right)

People do have some nerve. We get used by businesses at work as we sell industrial air compressors. A lot of times people tend to make it sound like they want our machine and need a firm price, then just use our quote to get better terms with our competitor. Some people just will never understand the value of good people and good products, always buying on price.

If you want quality oats, you have to pay a fair price. If you want oats that have been through the horse already, well, those are a little cheaper.

everytime a customer of mine claims that my prices are too high (im in the food and beverage business) i tell them "well if you think it's too much put it back! i promise you someone else will buy that today!"

ok the guy was definitely an ass but now you've got me curious about who is a reliable shipper at the best price. It seems most people here use NAVL but you say they are the most expensive. BTW I'm not the cheap ass who called for the info. I'm another cheap ass.

The question is: Did you get his name, so when he calls looking for someone to fix it, you can charge him a 'research' fee.

Welcome to the "new" America. Out of necessity, consumers have become OBSESSED with doing anything possible to save money. Perhaps if you told him that he doesn't have to pay shipping if he buys it from you and when he has any problems you are LOCAL to him. I HATE the public. And this type of thing started with the Internet and keeps getting worse each and every day as the economy continues to suck...

On behalf of Wisconsin I would like to apologize, even though it would seem he isn't form WI, the fact that Wisconsin has caused you issue I will take this up at our next meeting :)

I hear you though I am amazed you even gave him any numbers. I get people who will call me and ask for Pizza Hut's number about once a month. They always end up calling back when they find out we are cheaper and won't take an hour to get their food to them, but I feel your frustration.

On a side note $250.00 door to door shipping? Seriously? Even to Wisconsin? Really? If so I am beyond impressed and need to look over your inventory.

Todd,

I have no idea of what the game was, what the prices were, etc.

I can say:

1) People (particularly newbies) need to understand what the total cost of the system will be, particularly when they're ordering something sight unseen from another seller. I know personally that I put a lot more money into my Spy Hunter that I bought "cheaply" from Ebay than if I'd bought one from a local retailer. And I wasn't able to see it in person and 'test drive' it. Of course, I had no idea there WERE local retailers for video games back then. Lesson(s) learned.

2) If your KLOV dealings are representative of how you treat your customers then this local irritant is turning his back on top-notch local service. And I'm guessing that they are a newbie based on what you've relayed. I hope they'll enjoy the service they get from the non-local seller because when stuff breaks -- and it inevitably will -- they're going to feel awfully stupid.

3) Anyone that would ask someone this so they can buy from a competitor is a douchebag.

I'm afraid your "new" America has been around forever. We just keep thinking it was better back in the days.

What I can't place on a timeline, however, is when having tact went out of style. This guy obviously gave his away.

Sorry to hear that Todd. I still enjoy watching your infomercial and your new series of YT vids. :)

Todd, you are a nice guy.

I would have told the CHeap Bastard about Uship.com and wished him Good Luck

Good for china tho.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Todd, when this trog DEMANDED a complete list of shippers, why didn't you just give him a complete list of "go fu*k yourself''? People like this shouldn't be treated in a civil manner-ever!

If any of you were to come to TNT, posted by EVERY phone at TNT (we have 14), phone numbers of mechanical pinball repairmen, guys that work on jukeboxes, board repairs (Eldorado and Coin Service), even Betson!. So if we can not or choose NOT to do a repair, we can give them other people that can help. There are not alot of others that will do that. If they want to BUY a mechanical game, I refer them to two LOCAL people who sell them (Russ and Bob Borden)...been doing this for years! Todd

Giving referrals to help people find what they need when you don't have it is a great way to stay top of mind. :)

Now I need to figure out how to do some board repairs for you to make it on that short list. hahahahahaha!

Hey, what was the name of that crappy shipping company that everyone was dogging on here a few months ago? That's the one you should've given him.

RJ

I can say that things definitely got worse after the Internet became widespread because people have an obsession with getting the "smoking deal". To the point where they miss the fact that if something is dirt cheap or "too good to be true", there is a good reason for it.
