New Storage Shed! Woo Hoo! I have been waiting about 5 weeks since ordering my custom built 10 x 12' Dakota Storage shed to see it finally in place. It showed up yesterday morning and I couldn't be happier.

Now finally all of those useless items like my lawn mower, snow blower, Shop Vac, Ladder, bicycles, kids electric cars, etc, have a home, and my work space can finally stay as I want it. I kinda wish the building was for the games, but now because of it, they get to stay in the garage, which is heated and currently being remodeled. Total cost with delivery? About what a decent Star Wars cockpit with 25" amp goes for these days. I think I'll get more use outta this.

Funny, I've considered a shed to get all that "extra" stuff out of the garage to make more room for games too. Congrats!

Thanks man. It's funny, while it sat there empty for the first hour I actually tried to figure out if all the games in the garage would fit in there. It has a side access door, so I figured that I could fit about nine playable cabs in 2 face to face rows of 4 and 5 games, leaving about 4 feet of playing space between the 2 rows. There are currently 10 cabs in the garage, but I will be destroying one of them, leaving me with 9. Damn, maybe I should insulate this shed, move the heater over here and make this my arcade clubhouse.

That looks really nice, Phet. I like how it matches your home. I really have been looking into a shed too. $2k? or so?!

This one was $2700 with tax and delivery. And yeah, I color matched their siding and trim samples to the house before making the order.

Obviously in a smaller town you don't have all sorts of city regulations or subdivision covenants. Up here, you can't put outbuildings (sheds, gazebos, second garages, pool houses, etc...) anywhere forward from the rear of the house, and then it must be within the edge of the sides of the house and garage wall lines (i.e. not be visible on the sides if you stand directly in front of your house from across the street).

Many new areas covenants (not city rules, but property developer rules you sign when you purchase the land from them) prohibit sheds entirely, a few that allow them must have a 4" thick concrete slab with footings and made out of identical exterior materials (siding must match, etc..) and have the same roof line as house--absolutely no tin, resin or other similar materials.

I'd do some kind of skirting or fill around it with gravel or you will end up with critters living under it. My city has been HORRIBLE for skunks this year.

Of course. It was delivered yesterday, haven't had much time to finish the exterior. I need an apron up to the garage door as well.

Look! The first cabaret size Phet house! :D Seriously cool how it matches your house...even the garage door!

We don't? Why do you think it matches the house, architectural shingles and all? Also, it IS within the perimeter of the garage and house walls. It can't be seen from the South or West side, which face the main highway and the entrance to the development. I had to keep it at 10 x 12', as that was the max size for a non-stick built structure without a foundation that the city allows. It sits on 4 inches of tamped and leveled crushed granite.

Thats the same rules in my area , 10 x 12 is the biggest you can go . After that you have to have a concrete foundation . Anything bigger than 10 x 12 is not considered a shed .

I've been thinking about doing the same thing , 10 x 12 shed as the dedicated small gameroom . Insulate it and get one of those $150 window AC units , cut a hole and stick it in the wall and also get a small portable electric heater and your set . Just run an extension cord for power from the house . The sheds are pretty small though , I've just always wondered how it would be to use one as a gameroom .

And I really wanted a concrete foundation, truth be told, but it was a huge hassle to have the area located and marked, then have the site excavated, slab poured, leveled, etc. I talked to the storage shed builders and they were also leery moving the shed to the site without a floor or skids. They have a special trailer that kind of relies on the skids to be able to haul and place it. They wanted to charge me additional cash to move it there in pieces and have it erected onsite. I just took the easy option of a crushed granite pad for the skids to sit on. The skids are 4x4 green treat posts basically. The crushed granite provides a stable base while providing drainage. The area is also sheltered as you can see so unless a tornado drops out of the sky right on top of it it should be fine.

Very nice...I built a shed this past summer but I constructed it myself and did all the extras like shingling, trim, etc to save money....I just painted mine to match the color of our siding because is had a nice finish already...my only complaint..is you could have used a tad smaller door ...that would have given you some extra wall space on the side with the door that would be usable space...:D..

Other than that it looks like it was built with the house and that is what you want....Unless you want to look like white trash like some sheds I've seen...
