I've decided to restore my Addams Family as best I can. It's a good machine but does have some issues. Previous owner was an idiot and in several places replaced original screws underneath with ones that were to long that poked through the playfield. There is quite a bit of scoop wear especially around the electric chair. The game was also simply filthy.

Here are the photos so far:

I intend on touching up the playfield issues, rebuilding the scoops, and clearcoating the playfield myself.

Any tips would be GREATLY appreciated. Starting with the epoxy to build up the scoop, does anyone know what is typically used? What about paints? Acrylic?

I'm going to bump this thread in Jan to see how you made out and get some tips, have an Addam's Family lined up and will be picking it up over the holidays. Also needs alot of work.

paints? Acrylic?

very few acrylic paint colors react with the clearcoat and create "wisps" in the clear, but few of them do.
the black sharpie pens react with the clearcoat very badly, most acrylic colors do not react. all depends on what clear you are using
you can buy a new playfield anyway, so if it gets messed up its not the end of the world.
so just clear it, play it and enjoy it ! thats my advice

Haha, thats what I've said. My friends think I'm crazy for attempting to do this myself but everyone who's ever touched up and clear coated a playfield had to have a first right? I'm doing it to my Addams because it has the most problems.

Like you said, what's the worst case scenario, I screw it up SO badly that I have to buy a new playfield? I got a really good deal on this machine as the CPU board had some pretty bad acid damage causing the machine to appear to have a large variety of problems. I'm willing to take that risk.

I'm definitely proceeding with caution though. Hopefully I'll have a nice game, be ripe with experience for my next project, and be able to answer questions when I'm finished. I'll also do my best to document everything Kryzsky.
