Hey all,
Thanks so much to those who have contributed your perspectives (although I'm not big on the ones suggesting people should smash my head with a bat or destroy my home)
My takeaways:
Seller spent the money before he had it. My Mistake for sending before delivery to someone without solid reputation.
Seller won't come get his games for a refund. My Mistake for not confirming the condition of everything at 2am and avoiding a conflict. My mistake for expecting any capital to remain should there be any issues at point of sale.
Cash in Hand when dealing with strangers/ folks with minimal reputation is the way to go as paypal is "slimy" - My mistake and I will avoid Paypal/Non Cash deals with sellers that have little reputation within the community.
Seller, from my perspective, misrepresented what he had both in condition and authenticity. My Mistake for not asking for more details and letting him leave them.
Seller, from my perspective, misrepresented how he would ship and deliver. My mistake for taking his word for it.
Seller, from my perspective, is more interested in name calling and smearing my character than providing a positive experience. My Mistake for doing business with him.
People that aren't friends and family in the middle of the night with a knife and the wrong demeanor can be scary, so don't put yourself in those situations. My Mistake
There are a lot of folks on both sides of the fence as to whether I was "scammed". Fact remains majority of what I received is not as described and seller is unwilling to really make things right.... but ultimately these are My Mistakes.
Violence is real and is not something to joke about. I feel this now more than ever. I will admit my family is a little on edge with the shootings that recently impacted us. My mistake for expecting others to be a little more courteous in a forum setting.
Yes I am "that guy" that is new to the community and trying to build up to an arcade some day. So yes I am ignorant and learning as I go. My Mistake. Thank you to all those that have been supportive and made great deals with me this far.
Yes I have a list of a dozen or so games I'm still trying to get.
Yes my wife drives a mercedes and yes my home is probably worth a million bucks - not sure how that or me being "mormon" is relevant to the meat of this issue which is simply getting what you paid for and expecting good from people of the community.
No I'm not a total douche. I was notified by someone the seller's perspective was being shared, and so I felt it fair to share mine and ask for feedback. Thank you for it.
No I didn't plan to scam from the beginning -
No I don't want to take the machines and the money.
No I didn't want conflict with the guy that already had my 8k and a knife out in my garage at 2am - thank you @kcorcoran for providing another perspective to the group.
No I didnt want a 60 in 1 --- I believe the majority of this community doesn't either.
No I didnt agree to buying any projects, but thats what I got and I will own it is my fault for accepting delivery.
My grandma always said: "If you need an excuse, anyone will do!" I'm going to take the learnings from this as being far more valuable than the money lost.
@ElectricDreamz I greatly appreciate your perspective sharing your previous experience. Life goes on - Journey before Destination
To the seller: I am "manning up" as you said I needed to - and have dropped the dispute. I don't expect you will do anything, but if you do - any refund you send me will be donated to the community. I also appreciate the parts if they arrive.
Thank you everyone - and if you know a good tech out in GA please let me know. Thank you to the one that has already reached out!
Don't forget casually trying to initiate a chargeback for eight grand like it's ebay. The mistake you made, as a new collector, was not doing it yourself. Go to the buyer's place, look at the games, play the games. Then if you like them, PAY CASH and transport them YOURSELF. Rent a trailer or truck, bring a friend. Do the work. Pictures and descriptions rarely represent the actual condition.
Again I didn't initiate a chargeback. I submitted a dispute for 3k and dropped it. Nothing casual about how I ended up with some projects and admit my mistakes.Don't forget casually trying to initiate a chargeback for eight grand like it's ebay.
I don't care who you are, that's funny right there! And don't even get me started about sporks.
