So I was contacted as I stated in my original thread, and after some back and forth untill 1am on a friday night... We came to the $75 price and I rented a truck and drove almost 300 miles round trip to snag this dkjr orange cab.

I was sent these pics:

So to be honest... The cab has a bit of flaking, general mis-storage and was garage kept for like 10 years...

It was missing the transformer assembly, I found a gteat klover (insert name) who helped me out with some parts he had stashed away. Unbelievably great guy.

I recapped the pp-7b. Im not sure what people mean by they are difficult.... It was a breeze. Only hard part was not stripping screws. Works perfectly now.

So missing parts:

Marquee $40
Marquee top bracket+screws $23
Backdoor + instruction sheets+lock $20+4+7=$31
Monitor blackout sheets +30
Transformer assembly+cord+capkit +$45
Marquee light bulb+starter $14
New plug end for marquee light $4
New 9/16 t molding $10
Joystick spring $4
Sanyo 20ezv +sound cap kits +(b+cap)=$23
Sanyo20ezv hv cage+invert board $35
Coin box $30+ ship
Taigen sp? Lock for door

Whew. Thats a lot of crap missing... So I got it for $50 and they helped me load it... And I was on my way back.

So the original monitor had some issues and something is stuck open. So I pulled a spare sanyo20ezv from my raxk in the garage that had been previously washed and cleaned. I put a cap kit in for the board, b+, and sound board. It was missing thr hv cage and inverter board. Luckly i posted in the wanted sections and I had one here by my day off.

So I pulled the original so I can wash and rack it with a symptom tag. To cap it at a later time, but it will be more than a capkit i fear.

The original boardset looked like this on the monitor

I also installed a remote b+ test point

Worked perfect.

B+ measure safely away from the hv

It looks like hsync is off perhaps the pot on the board? Plus other issues...

I swapped boardsets to this spare I snagged for $40 which I didnt know at the time had a brazington high score save.

And I got this

And this

Missing sprites.... Wtf. The game plays coins from service... And starts a game... Joystick to the right and rhe missinf sprite hits the water and i lose a life. Untill all gone and it hits game over. Then back to attract.

Also no sound... I need to check monitor audio pot

Any suggestions are more than welcome

Update so the xhip 74ls373n at 2n was socketed ugly.

Look how fugly this chip was socketed. I have an idea who did this, as the galaga boardset was just as knackered.

Bad soldering and broken legs. This repair never worked.

I removed the chip

Placeholder 3 - sound issues

So my sound woahs continued as the volume was very low and I had none of the digital sounds... Music etc

https://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=414235

The above is the sound thread I made and workes out the issues.

I kept dicking with the sound amp pcb and recapped it. I even recapped and put new transistors in my spare out of another monitor I have yet to work on. No luck.

It ended up being a pcb issue with c161 1uf@50v and c13 4.7uf@50v caps.

C13 was a 25vcap, the schematic lists it as 50v so thats what I replaced it with. The original looked to be a factory soldering job. I replaced c13 as i read on mikes arcade repair logs that it is the final amplification stage before the preamp.

Had that not worked, I was going to recap the entire board.

Nice base price, but those upfront fees would have killed the deal for me. Good luck with your restore.

Even with what I have put into it at this point. Its still a steal of a game.

Luckly I had spare parts, luckly I like reworking pcbs.

Wow that chip repair job... lol... I wonder if they replaced it and were like "why aren't the sprites showing up!?!"

I'm surprised you managed to salvage the solder pads and they didn't just get destroyed by that 3rd grade soldering job previously.

i dont even understand how its possible to be that bad at soldering?

Yeaaaa he or who he had it done sucks ass.

Just wait the galaga is worse. Faar worse... But im going to do a full resocket on the galagas. And resistor packs n caps.

I was happy I got a good quality job done since I use a 60w solder iron and braid wick lol

Jk i have one of those cheap amazon 115v pullet/desolder irons... Gotta clean it after every board. But its badass.
