So, I finally built up the courage and replaced that stupid C606 cap, just as Dokert suggested. Glad I did, because this monitor has never looked brighter and doesn't have that stupid fluctuation problem any more. So, thank you all for your help!

is that the "filter cap"? what exactly did that change? I got a monitor that implodes and blooms at random when you have the volume turned up (top monitor on PC-10) ... is that the same thing you had or something else?

my bottom monitor I can see the scan line ripple through it. lol my terminology might be totally wrong too.

Yeah, that's the filter cap problem I had. It would just get bright and expand, quickly and briefly... really sucked. Wouldn't stay at a desirable color, either. I would turn it on and could notice it wasn't the same as when I turned it off. I replaced that filter cap, and the monitor looks like it had a total cap kit done. And yes, none of that random blooming crap now and then.

where'd you get yours at, Mouser or something? I should probably just do all 4 of my EZs lol

got the rating, etc.?

I bought mine from a local electronics store. Nice store, NOT radio shack.

Yeah, Jaytronics. I was off yesterday due to the weather, so I just said the hell with it and bought it there. I even used your bizarre, totally unsafe monitor discharge method... you would have been proud.

Please fill the rest of us in, what's the unsafe way to discharge a monitor. You can't just leave us wondering.

Mike

dmm lead...

bananas plug onto a hole in the frame(most frames have a hole thats the perfect size) or stick the banana plug under the ground strap of the tube...

then the other pointy end into the anode hole...

let the critisism begin lol
