I sent cdjump this message:
"We have a 4-player demo derby. Reverse on the Green car isn't working. Signal to the board is good. We resoldered the edge connector pins and tested resistors and caps immediately after edge connector. No change. Any ideas or should we just ship this sucker out to you?"

*** And YES!!!! It was one of the ls244s. Picked one up locally from "Reuseum", hatrick did his magic and BOOOM... Demo Derby is happy again! Thanks cdjump!
