I have a tftc that is missing the gate wire at the top of the playfield. This is letting the ball go both ways all the way around the top of the playfield. Can anyone tell me a part number or what exactly this gate does? does it let the ball go all the way around from left to right, or right to left?

Also having a few other problems, it will kick out a ball in the shooter lane sometimes right after i drain the ball in play, and it will sit there for a while until it auto kicks it out. and it wont retain any game settings. I have fresh batteries in it, but if i change the options from any factory settings it asks me to open the coin door as soon as its turned on, and then it loses all the settings i programmed in. Any ideas? New roms maybe? im running 3.01 cpu, i know the latest is 3.03 (im ordering those tomorrow) is there a big difference? It is also suposed to say "no pay'em no ga'em" when its turned on, it makes it to no pay'em and then cuts off. The rest of the sounds seem ok. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Check the rollover switch underneath the playfield, either a wire has fallen off, or you need to adjust the switch so it closes when the ball sits on it, or the switch is foobarred.

Sounds like your batteries aren't making a connection with the battery holder terminals or the battery holder itself is not making a proper connection to the PCB. So either try and fix that or just install a remote battery holder which is much easier, and could save the board from battery acid damage someday...

That wire gate should pass the ball through going from right to left and stop the ball going from left to right - letting it drop into the jet bumpers.

Thanks Russ and Tom! I have checked the ball switches, and all of them are making contact, along with the auto plunger switch. It seems to just kick out balls even during multiball if i drain a ball, it'll kick out another one, it actually takes some work to "lose a ball" LOL! Im guessing the roms are doing something funny, ive got a new updated set on order, so i'll see if that has any effect on gameplay.

If it's randomly kicking out balls then you likely have a problem with your ball trough switches. There are multiple switches in the trough..check those...highly doubt it's a rom issue...it's VERY common for pins to spit out multiple balls, and from all that I've read it's almost always a ball trough switch issue...that's where I'd start...

It will kick out a ball as i lose one. during multiball when i lose a ball it will sometimes kick another one out right away and launch it into play, during single ball play it will sometimes kick out a ball when i lose one, and then sit at the launcher until its ready to launch it out by itself, usually around 10 to 20 seconds. If i drain a ball within 10 seconds it is supposed to kick one out and say freeze or something, but it doesnt say anything and the ball sits at the launcher till it goes by itself. Ill go over the trough switches again and double check

OK, i need the gate wire, can someone give me a part number for just the wire, or a place where i could order the whole gate part # 515-5895-00? I also need to order the launch gate, part # 500-5494-00. I cant find them anywhere, is there a cross reference maybe, or another part that would work?

Cliffy offers a repro of the ball launch T-gate:

You should get the Crypt Hole protector too.

Thanks Russ! I also fixed the problem with the game launching extra balls, there was a problem with the ball trough itself, it mustve been outta whack just a bit, i bent it a hair one way, and now it works like a champ!
