I recently picked up a Tales From The Crypt and am trying to change it over from German to English.

I started by replacing the sound roms (even though they are the same for all languages) and the cpu rom V.303 to make sure I had the latest revision. I received the cpu rom(s) but the roms are 2 different sizes. I placed one rom in location 5C (no idea where the other one goes and don't think it's needed) and when the machine boots I see the new revision of software.

Why the hell is this machine still in German? Is there a jumper or dip switch setting I am missing. I don't see any info in the manual for this.

first, be more clear

it seems you have had it converted to us standard electricity, but im assuming

did you go into the menu's and change it there?/

When I picked up the machine it was already set for US voltage.

I can go through the manual and try to follow the diagnostics (in German) but don't see a software setting for language in the manual. Is there one?

Is the other CPU rom in my set of 2 for location U12, Rom 0 on the Display controller board?

Did you read this?

http://www.pinrepair.com/de/index2.htm#romver

From this page:

"The display EPROMs (games Checkpoint and later) hold all the graphics and text needed for display on the dot matrix score display. A separate EPROM was used for this because a separate CPU chip (on the dot matrix controller board) was used to display the dot matrix animations. The display EPROM chips are always located on the back side of the dot matrix display. It is also a good idea to run the latest version of this EPROM code too. If the game powers-on and shows a country of origin other than the country desired, changing the display's EPROMs will fix this (note that Stern's web page with all the EPROM code available for download is usually for U.S.A. games only)."

Yes sir I did! It wasn't in the manual, but I received 2 roms when I ordered the CPU rom upgrade. I just didn't realize the second rom was actually on the display board itself. I will place the 2nd rom into the display board tonight. I'm sure it will work.

Thank you for the info. I replaced the german rom on the back of the display driver board and all is lets say "In English".

It's nice to actually be able to run through diagnostics in your own language. The things you take for granted =)
