Hello KLOVers. I have been considering trading my:

Street Fighter II

or

Soul Calibur (I still need to put new blue T-molding on it.)

...for an

Original dedicated NeoGeo MVS 4-slot.

I am not currently looking for offers. I am just asking for opinions or weather or not anyone thinks this is a fair trade. I have never traded games before, only bought them but the fact that I will eventually be done restoring my Guilty Gear XX, I don't need three fighters AND an MVS full of fighting games. Not to mention with the way the economy is, I really could not afford buying one outright at the moment anyway.

Soul Calber is a 150 dollar game.

There are a million SF2 out there in various cabinets.

It would not be a fair trade. the NEO GEO is worth more than the 2 combined IMHO.

Now dont get me wrong your SF2 looks nice and I wouldnt mind having one but still think the NEO is worth more.

Good luck, free bump.

Thank you for your honest opinion. That's the kind of response I was looking for, although not hoping for. :(

The SFII I converted from the ground up out of a gutted and ruined Relief Pitcher that used to be a Moon Patrol from the best I could tell. It was too far gone to be Moon Patrol ever again, so I made it SFII! It still needs the bezel art which I could get a repo of but it has all brand new sticks and buttons that I ordered to match the art. It was my first ever conversion and I put a lot of time and love into it.

The Soul Calibur I also converted. It is the combination of a dead Golden Tee 99' in a Mortal Kombat II cab I got from someones garage and a dead converted Mortal Kombat I that I saved from the trash that a local warehouse was tossing. Both had all of their art sanded off and repainted black, so again, no saving either of the original games. I converted them into one solid Soul Calibur.

Both games have all new sticks, buttons, plexiglass, bolts, working monitors, newer power supplies. I thought for sure they would be worth more in this state. Neither has seen a commercial setting since I converted them.

EDIT: How much is a NeoGeo 4 slot worth?

EDIT: How much is a NeoGeo 4 slot worth?

Short story; in great condition, with everything being PERFECT, I can see $500-$600. Any issues, the price starts coming down.

Long story; It's subjective. There is not real set in stone price on these. But, when I look at one (I've bought 4 NG cabs) I consider all of the following;

#1 above all else; the condition of the screen. This is the most expensive part of the package. Controls, PSU, even the mainboards are all dirt cheap and easy to replace. If the screen is excellent, I'm very interested.

On to the board... have the audio caps been replaced? Is there a battery mod? Does it have the metal cover? Chances are, audio caps will need to be replaced. I've yet to find an NG board that didn't need this. The batteries also leak and will destroy the board. Battery must be removed at a bare minimum, but the coin cell mod is ideal.

You also want the original MVS wiring harness, not a hacked up JAMMA harness.

But let's consider that everything is in good shape. By comparison, the last cab I bought was absolutely perfect except for the aftermarket PSU that didn't hook up precisely with the wiring harness. It came with 7 original games. It was also a 2 slot, not a 4 slot. I paid $425.

Another cab I got (4 slot) was fairly good, but the chassis needed to be recapped. It also had no coin mechs and the EL bulbs (very expensive) for the marquee were out. I paid $450 and that was with the seller throwing in 3 original games.

I also bought a 2 slot that was thrashed. Chassis needed caps, traces repaired, audio caps, new speakers, and controls. I paid $200. This was a storage unit buy and the guy had not drilled out the locks. When I got it home, there were 3 games inside, an old style $20 bill, and over $200 in quarters :)

Out here the prices on Neo Geos have dropped big time. There were just a couple of really nice four slots in the $400 range, and even a few two slots that you could upgrade cheaper.

As with everything in this hobby it is all about location. I would recommend checking out any OPs in your area. They usually have a grave yard full of MVS cabs and they are usually pretty cheap.

Condition of cab / screen is going to determine value for sure.

Rarely do cabs sell where I am, but the same SF cab you have sold for $350 here. When Neo cabs are available they go for $300-500 depending on condition and # of included games, etc.

I think all things considering, if you find a partner in your area - if the conditions were a "match" you sould be able to swap your SF cab and $100-150 for a Neo. Obviously none of those cabs are worth shipping though :/

Thank you again to all who have replied thus far.

I already have 15 original MVS games as I have been amassing them in preparation for the day I actually get a MVS cab:

..so the number of games it comes with is not a big deal.

I have a single slot MVS board that I have been using to play them currently.

So it sounds to me like I would be better off selling one of the two cabs I am willing to part with and then using the money to buy an MVS from a local OP?

To be clear, I don't think anyone was advising you to try to get games out of it, just that a lot of times games are included and that affects the seller's asking price. If you do find a seller with a cab that is including games, use it as a bartering tool, "I don't want the games, will you take X".

Good point. I'll see what I can dig up.

Unless you're planning on traveling quite a bit, I've found that trading for a specific machine is kind of difficult around here. I've been able to trade what I've got for other things I'm looking for, but I can't quite keep it specific to one or two games. It's usually I have X game and I'm looking for something from my list of 10 games. I've also found that selling what I have to one party, and buying from another party works a lot more. I also haven't seen a Neo-geo pop up around here in the few years I've been collecting, though I haven't really been looking for one. I know that I've seen a few in St Louis.

Yeah, that's beginning to look my only option. Although, maybe I could trade my local op. I hate to put a retired game back into circulation though...

Just try to sell your games for as much as you can get on Craigslist maybe. I don't think anyone would trade a Neo Geo cab for SF2 or Soul Caliber, except for maybe an op who wants to get rid of a Neo. You shouldn't worry about a retired game going back into circulation. At least some one will be playing it. These cabs weren't meant to be pampered.
