Testing power on a Circuit question for 6100 high voltage

I am trying to test a circuit in the high voltage section on a 6100 and am not the most knowledgealbe about where to but my leads. There is to be voltage bewteen the flyback and a zener diode. The monitor is not getting any voltage to the cathod cup so wanted to trase it back.

So the question is where to place the leads on the meter to test this.

1. ground to chasis with black lead and then clip to the diode
2. put one lead on one end and one lead on the other end?
3. some other way.

I assume the way we will test this is the same for other componets. Thanks for you help.

You're checking for DC voltage. Clip the black lead to ground (monitor frame). Clip the red lead to each side of the diode and see what voltage readings you get. Power off when attaching and detaching the red lead clip. Make sure the clip doesn't touch other parts...
