I ended up borrowing this little test box from Cmndr Brain to help troubleshoot a Crazy Climber board set. I just can't get over at how ABSOLUTELY COOL this thing is!

Awesome job John! :beerchug: And thanks for letting me borrow it dude!

That is a nice box and I really like that little screen.

I am going to build one but will probably use a Netendo controller, one of the original controllers.

EDIT:

What was wrong with that board set and what was the fix?

All of the "voice" sounds and also the climbing sounds are not working.

Still not sure of the fix yet since I didn't have any time to look at it(beyond connecting up to the box). :)

Does it have the adapters to hook up other classic taitos? I've got some change lanes pcbs I'd love to fix! Also, piles of zookeeper pcb boards.. Man, I'd love a tool like that

Ok, Crazy Climber board #1 that was just missing the climber & voice sounds was a defective LM3900 at location 8p. Thanks go to CrazyKongFan for the pointer!

Since that was so simple:))), I took a stab at Crazy Climber board #2. This board had no sounds at all working... the graphics were corrupt... and the game would reset pretty regularly at the start of the game.

The AY-3-8910 was defective. 7 or 8 EPROMs were either missing pins or defective(showing up as all "FF" on the EPROM programmer). A 5101 RAM was defective. And again, the LM3900 was defective.

Unfortunately I couldn't completely fix this board because my EPROM Eraser's bulb died. I'm using parts from board #1 now for testing but at least it's fixed. :D

Pretty good day... I think I'll complete John's Pac-Man to JAMMA harness and take a look at my spare Pac-Man PCB that is missing sound. :)

Not yet... John just makes the adapters up as needed.

And yeah... I *NEED* to make something like this to have around here all the time. I'm used to working in the back of the machine and after using this... NEVER again man... NEVER AGAIN! ;)

He made a thread about this little box when he completed it last year... let me find it...

what type of "test box" is that?

Another member here, Cmndr Brain, made it. He has it wired out as JAMMA and then he uses finger boards to adapt it to other harnesses. The adapter I'm using is just a Crazy Climber to JAMMA.

Pretty nice setup.

Any pics of the inside?

Sorry, no pics of the inside. Jeff has it, probably for a little while. When I get it back, I'll try to get some pics up. Nothing fancy. Switching power supply and lots of wire. Oh, and a fuse. I debated whether to put in a pc power supply, but ultimately settled on an arcade switcher because it was easier. Talking with Jeff, who had some great enhancement ideas, I'm going to put amplifiers on the speakers (to handle Atari's) with a switch on the second speaker to connect a probe for audio troubleshooting. Also, want to add a CGA to VGA converter with an external VGA port so I can connected it to a larger screen. The 5" is perfect and keeps it portable.

I want to see a vid of you playing CC on that thing :D

Really nice test unit! I have been ordering some parts to build my own unit. Love what you did with it!
Thanks for sharing! :)

If you use this audio amplifier it comes with a video inverted which is helpful for Nintendo PCBs.

That's a great idea 2600. :beerchug:

I just want to give John a little :beerchug: since he's been helping me get things together for my test box. Thanks again dude! :)

2600, that is a great idea.:fing02: I just don't have any Nintendo's right now. I'll certainly keep that in mind when I buy my Punch Out back from Jeff.
