Terrible news.... Nastalgia is wearing off......

Great excitement. Until I found out exactly how difficult it is to get the perfect arcade experience via MAME. lol! I have tweeked until I'm tired of tweeking. Much like a piece of art, I know where all the flaws exist even though it may look like a masterpiece to others.

Yes MAME is like the Stepford Wifes, seems like a great idea, just not the same.

Your thoughts / experiences?
There is high tide, then there is low tide, then there is high tide again. *shrugs* A couple things I have noted in my time in the hobby:

1. Many of the games that I loved as a kid I have bought and then sold within a couple of months because the game play did not hold up. If you no longer enjoy a game that you did when you were a kid, send it down the road.

2. Likewise, some of the games I hated because they were too hard BITD are some of my favorites now. Don't be afraid to look to games you might not think of to add to/spice up your collection.

3. Find a local KLOVer. Get together regularly to hang out and play games. Play doubles. Nothing spices up classic games like a little head to head competition.

I feel ya on the space restrictions, I live in apt as well. I change out my games pretty regularly since I can only have 3-4 at a time. Im hapoy with what I have NOW but that will change and ill just sell one or two and buy some more. However I did just get a pin and that spices it up alot, I play the pin more now so when I get back to my vids ill be a little more enthused about'em. Down side, plns are freaking expensive

I'm exactly the opposite of you. I don't really care about fixing but I play as much as I can. All I have is a DK (with DKII, and also DK Jr. board to swap in) and I would play every day if I had the time. I do have another Nintendo cab that I will eventually do something with but my problem is the fixing gets in the way of my playing.

If it's the fixing you're into, sell one and then buy another to restore.

i'm on my second round of collecting. Originally i wanted all classics (pacs, dks, tron, ect) but after a while realized, i'd play them for 5 mins and leave the room. When we had guests, they would initially seem enthused, but again after 5 mins the room would be empty. So i sold off everything, and started over. This time going with games that i liked to play and would actually get played by others, instead of what "collectors" would consider good games. Also added more of a "bar" theme, to occupy people that arent into the games. Added a projector, a couple LCD TVs, a bar, a couple bar tables, a jukebox, DJ Lighting system, and now i have to tell people to leave the gameroom as the sun is coming up.
