Terrible news.... Nastalgia is wearing off......

I have found that unless other people are over, I have no interest in playing my games. I never realized how heavy the social aspect / competitiveness of the games was, before I owned them.

This happens to me too. You know what helps combat that? A good classic rock radio station with DJs you like.

I have trouble staying in my game room by myself if all I hear is silence or the game I'm playing. I typically have either '80s music videos going on the TV or the bookshelf stereo system is on the radio. KISW in Seattle in your garden variety classic rock radio station, guaranteed to play AC/DC at least once every 30-45 minutes in between Rush, Ozzy, Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, Van Halen, and Aerosmith. :)

But yeah, invite your friends over to play, often.

get a new game. that usually rekindles my interest. but i have periods of time, maybe a few days or a week randomly where i don't play my games. just a fact of life.

I used to have the drive to buy and restore games. Unfortunately after 18 years of collecting, I have lost that drive, probably for good. I have 48 machines all set up in my basement and I have them ON 2-3 times a year. And even when they are on, it's usually for a gathering and others are playing them, not me.

Do I like owning them: Absolutely!

Do I want to sell them? Absolutely not!

I really get more enjoyment out of watching others play and enjoy the machines.

Im sure this has happened to everyone in here.... I basically have no want to turn on my machines anymore...... I mean when one was broken there was this drive to keep tinkering with em... Like i couldnt wait to get off work and start the adventure, now that they have been working for the past month.... They have had maybe 10 minutes play.

Now i know i could prolly sell em or switch em out, and this is where im torn, i dont want to sell em lol. Im honestly thinking about working on chassis while they are powered on with metal tools :) just to give me something more to work on ha!

Anyway maybe its just that there isnt many mortal kombat fans around me to keep these arcades fun and enjoyable on a regular basis...

Let me get this straight..you are complaining because everything you have is working? If I ever get everything that I have working I will buy the Star Wars chair for $500.00. :)

Make a trip to GA and I will put you to work. ;)

I have tthe same issue. I have my multi MK and LOVE IT! THe prob is the computer AI is horrid, and there are so few people that want to play. I have a few folks and we will play for about 6 hours straight on a good run, but it is hard to find constant competition.

If you are ever in WI, you have a challenger!

Duly noted! I sense the SW chair being bought soon....

I can't say I haven't ever been "burnt out" but I have only been collecting 4 years. playing for 30 though. :)

I can say though that all my monitor chassis' are rebuilt, never been able to say that before.

I like to have 2 projects lying around so I always have something to work on.

I like playing the games though, and my collection is diverse enough that I can jump from game to game and enjoy it.

I am in a stretch right now for the last 10day to 2 weeks, I haven't been able to do almost anything in the garage. kind of pissing me off, but I have been working a lot and my days off are filled with daddy duty while my wife is getting dental work done.

I do have to say though, that due to my lack of room (able to hold 13 games max) I do switch up the lineup every few months with trades, or selling and buying. I always keep the 5 or 6 main games I love, but I rotate through.

I realize everyone loves what they grew up with, but to me you have a lot of games but a serious lack of variety. When I look at your game list, I basically see two games -a fighting game and an on-rails shooter. I would have burnt out of that really fast too.

Your "want" list will help that a lot. Neo Geo adds a lot of flexibility. I suggest getting an inexpensive JAMMA machine and making either a xxx-in-1 or MAME. I know people here love the dedicated stuff but finding a great game you never even heard of really is a breath of fresh air.

Like others have said, you need more variety. And if you keep all those Mortal Kombats, how much use will they really get? Why would you play Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 when you have the sequels which are better?

Get a JAMMA cab and buy some good games to switch out every once in a while.

If you want a project, something to keep you busy for a LONG time, and opportunity to learn a lot, get a late 70s-early 80s Bally or Williams pinball project.

Why would you play Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 when you have the sequels which are better?

Because the sequels aren't actually better.

I actually enjoy working on the games more than playing them right now. I would play more if i had more friends. The ones i do have suck and offer no challenge. I get more pleasure out of watching others play and see the look on their faces when they see the two arcade rooms in my house.

My suggestion: find a good project.

Something that will keep you busy for awhile. One you finish a challenging project it will inspire you to play more. You built your collection very quickly so now that you had to slow down for space reasons you don't get the thrill-of-the-new. It'll pass.

This is what happens to you when you finally get them all working? Damn. :(

Sounds like you just enjoy working on them more than playing them. Sell some and pick up another project. I know I WISH I had the time to do more of that myself.

Not much variety of games you got there. And you crammed them all in that tiny apartment of yours, If you aren't careful you could start to hate them. I say you should reduce the number and introduce some variety. All MK games are basicly the same, you could put the boards in one cabinet with a JAMMA switcher, then bring in some 80's classics, and other 90's fighters. Maybe a pinball too?

If you don't care to play them, then think about getting out of the hobby of collecting them, and just focus on building yourself a nice test rig and tech shop. Start up a side business of repair in your area, I'm sure there's plenty of opportunity to be had in your city.

Great excitement. Until I found out exactly how difficult it is to get the perfect arcade experience via MAME. lol! I have tweeked until I'm tired of tweeking. Much like a piece of art, I know where all the flaws exist even though it may look like a masterpiece to others.

Ultimately, all hobbies have an finite lifespan.

My guess is you're probably in a rut that may go away by selling something and buying a pin or new game, as others have suggested. But, maybe you're ready to move on to another hobby.

It happens.
