Hi, I am looking for some help with a gun problem.
I have a Terminator Salvation with weak gun recoil feedback. I took the gun apart and the problem appears to be between the solenoid coil and the brass knocker. Their is a small shaft threaded on both ends. One end goes inside the coil and the other end goes inside the brass knocker but nether end is attached. Theirs nothing on the brass knocker for the rod to screw into and it's all just floating loose. Looking at the parts diagram in the manual it appears the threaded rod comes with the solenoid coil assembly and the brass knocker is shown next but I don't see how it attaches to the shaft unless theirs something missing in the end of the brass knocker. This is my first time inside one of these guns but it looks like the shaft has broke off at the coil plunger and their's something missing from the brass knocker for the shaft to screw into but that's just a guess. I have a short video that shows it's current condition. I was hoping someone who has already had this problem could look at the video and tell me if I am correct and if all I need is a new coil and knocker to fix the problem. If all else fails I suppose I could take a look inside the other working gun but I was really hoping someone who has already been inside one of these guns could point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Sam

If you don't figure this out by mid week, let me know. I should have a gun open maybe on Tues/Wednesday and will take a peek for you. Can't remember what connects them since I have not really had this problem with the multiple Terminator guns I have had opened/fixed!!

Hi Brian, thanks for the reply and offer for help. gamefixer was going to see what he could find out but I haven't heard back from him yet. He has had these guns apart before but has not seen this problem. This game has been on location for a year so far and this is the first problem it's developed. The gun still targets great so game play is fine but I think the gun feedback is key to a good game experience. I have another TS at another location that had a gun targeting problem which was fixed by replacing a few bad IR LED's.
What other problems have you seen with these guns?

I have had to replace the gun opto board before, but most problems with the TS's have been IR boards. Once you swap over to the green IR boards from the red IR boards, it seems to fix most of them. Have had a few video cards go in the 4 I service as well, but knock on wood the games have been fairly trouble free besides a few little things(had one that needed a new harddrive as well recently). Also, make sure to keep your software up to date since that seems to solve some gun issues as well.

I'll let you know what I see when I crack the one open later in the week.

Hey Brian, did you ever crack open your TS gun?
Yea the 2 Terminators I service already had the new green IR boards but they did not have the IR harness upgrade kit installed so I had to replace 6 bad IR LED's and installed the kit in both games. The harness kit allows the game to turn off the IR LED's when the game is in attract mode and turn them on only during game play which extends the life of the IR LED's. I made a video of the installation which only takes 10 minuets or so to install.

It's been a month and I never got an answer so today I took matters into my own hands. I did what I did not really want to do, I opened up the other working gun. As I thought the threaded shaft screws into the solenoid plunger on one end and the other end of the threaded rod screws into the brass knocker. What still puzzles me is their are no threads in the plunger or the brass knocker. I can only guess their use to be something inside both which had threads but it must have disintegrated into dust as their were no signs of any broken parts.I did not try and unscrew the working one for fear it would break. I am a firm believer if it ain't broke don't break it. So it looks like I will need a new brass knocker and a new solenoid plunger and treaded rod which might only come as part of the coil, at least that's how it's listed in the parts diagram. I took some pictures of the good gun parts and the bad gun parts which are below. I also took video and when I receive replacement parts I plain to make a video detailing the repair so stay tooned.

I sent the pictures of the parts I needed to fix the game to the Boss and he forwarded them to the parts man at Betson so this past Tuesday I had the parts I needed to repair the gun. They sent me a new solenoid coil, new coil plunger, spring and C-clip. The plunger had a new threaded rod already installed and the new brass knocker has threads in the brass which the old one did not have so it must be an updated part. The gun also had a bad trigger switch which I also replaced so the gun is now working like new. I took video of the process from start to finish and up loaded it to You Tube. It's the newest video in my video series I call Arcade Fix. I have more videos in the works so if you like them keep a look out.

Just an update.
Last week I found the same problem in the Terminator Salvation player 2 gun at the other location. They ordered me the parts and today I installed them and the gun is banging away again. Just like last time it appears the brass knocker came unscrewed and the threaded shaft was just hacking away at the threads. I put it back together with Loctite like the last one so I guess we will see how long it holds up.
