So I've been working on getting this T2 up and running, the 2 guns all work perfectly and calibrate fine. When I press start and get into gameplay neither guns aim they stay aimed at the left side of the screen. They do calibrate though in the test menu. Any ideas ?
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,
Do you see the numbers for the x and y axes roll on the screen when your in the test mode and moving the guns? This also accures when you first start up the game in normal mode and it has been awhile. When you pull the trigger on the gun it ends the calibration, regardless if you move the guns.

Go into the test mode and look at the switch/ gun operation test menu. You can test all of the switches and you will see the x and y numbers change as you move the guns. The guns operate on two 5 k linear tappered pots mounted in the guns. Check the connections to the board. Check the wires going into the gun. The service manual will have the colors for the 5k pots.

PM me with your phone # if you are still having problems and I will fire up my T2 when I get home and give you a call.

I'd bet the shaft or bushings are worn to the point where there is enough slop where the potentiometer gears mesh that even after calibrate once you start playing (pulling back and twisting on the gun) that the gears "skip" or "jump" out of place which then immediately throws the calibration off.

Pull the control panel, set it to where you can watch the potentiometer gears as you move the gun through its full motion.

Also, check your fuses. I remember one game that kept firing upper left that was fixed by replacing two blown fuses on one of the boards...

ive tried it all, the 4 fuses on the board are all good. and the pentiometers are not all worn down. I must be missing something.

not sure how to do that, They do both shoot at the top left hand side. Any instruction would be great.

Mine has the same issue, I've been trying to research any solutions to this issue (it seems to be somewhat common) but haven't really had any good leads except for replacing the coil lamp driver board. One person suggested that replacing the U1 chip had been known to fix the problem, but that's the only instance I'd heard anything about it. That's where i'm going to start, but would like to hear from anyone else on any possible solutions.

PS

All fuses on mine are fine, all potentiometers test fine and all wiring and everything else is sound.

Had this issue you need a gun I/O PCB the one the guns plug into. You can see when you calibrate the guns that one of the Axis isn't moving this corrupts the save and the guns fire to the corner.

I spent al lot of time trying to fix my original gun PCB and then bought a working set and use the gun I/O PCB working OK ever since.

Can anyone check the U2 Chip on the board with a multimeter and tell me what they get for a readout for each of the top legs?

Just an update on this, I got a new I/O board and everything works now. The only issue now is the right side gun is a bit sloppy on the aiming, but it works. Thanks For all the guidance on this one.

Just curious, where did you end up finding one?

Glad to hear you got it fixed. I'll have to add the I/O board to my list of troubleshooting stuff, never had one go bad before, it was always the "slop" problem.

T2 guns

Both of my guns are sloppy like that. More "jerky" than anything. I'm guessing it's the pots and they aren't cheap.

The pots are not that hard to clean. Your going to have to disassemble the gun but it will also allow you to tighten up alot of loose bolts and it give you an excuse to straighten out and repaint the gun bases.

You will have to bend one of the tabs up and open the pot up a bit on one side to spray some cleaner inside them. worth it. That and putting some plastic wire mold on the wires inside the gun so they do not get cut up by the guns metal parts.
