Hey all,

I have a Tenma model 21-7935 soldering station and it's currently not working. I can adjust the temperature, but the iron never gets up to temp. According to customer reviews on the website, it looks like this iron has a reputation for the heating element opening up which I'm guessing is what's happened here. Just like people have said in the customer reviews, I haven't even gone through one damn tip yet!

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has this station and had a similar problem or gotten a lot of use out of it. I bought it because it was a pretty good buy with a discount as posted here on the forum quite a while back. My first thought is to see if maybe there is different but compatible iron I can buy for the station or if I'm better off in the long run with buying a different station. What really sucks is that I was just starting a cap kit when this happened. I suppose in a pinch I could go buy a tip for my shitty rat shack iron to get me through this repair while looking for a solution.

Hmm something else I considered was just how long the iron lasted. I went through my emails and found the confirmation order for the unit which was January of 09. Like many here I'm a hobbyist so the more I think about it, two years isn't bad for what I got out of it. Still seems like I'll never need to replace a tip since each iron comes with one and this one never needed a replacement.

Edit: Okay a bit of a knee jerk reaction, but I went ahead and bought 2 new irons off eBay. It'll only set me back 21 bucks with shipping so I figure if I can get another few years out of the station that's good enough for me. Now hopefully I don't end up kicking myself in the ass if by some long short miracle the iron isn't the problem, but I'm almost certain it has to be. If I run into more problems I'll look at a better station, but this has served me well up until now. If anyone wants to recommend a better station I'm all ears or if you want to chastise me for dumping 21 bucks into a bad station that's fine too. ;)
