I was at a local pizza shop tonight that had several games and i couldn't help but notice the steady stream of people pumping money into these things. A while back i had given the owner an empty cabinet for a crazy project and i went in to see how it turned out. He had a friend run an inkjet tapper marquee an a couple of beer salesman were gonna turn this thing into a beer tap station. It isn't quite done yet so i'll have to post a pic next time i'm there.

So we chat for a while and he asked me about my Tron machine and wondered if i'd be interested in renting it out for the month of january. I told him that the one he saw when he was at my place was actually sold but i now have another that's complete and working that i didn't care much about and what the hell, if it bring you some publicity you can have it for a month. The best part of the story for me is that he offered up all the money it makes for the month. He does a fair amount of advertising and holds high score tournaments for free food so that may explain the large crowd that was gathered tonight.

This machine is all original inside right down to the caps on the monitor so i'm gonna have to freshen it up a bit and cross my fingers that it can stand a months worth of running 10-12 hours a day. The monitor is already burnt to hell so i don't care about that but the board and power supply have me a bit nervous so i'm gonna toss in a temporary fan and hope for the best. The coin counter is still working and reading 64060 so we'll see what kind of play this thing gets.

Very Cool!! I hope to see some Trons out in the wild this month:cool:

Cool, I have been really curious as to just how much this movie will actually resurrect this game. I hope it brings back a lot of memories from the masses. That would be cool to see a retro 80's arcade movement.

Good luck with that.

I'm still having some trouble understanding why people would do this. The owner is offering for you to bring your machine into HIS establishment, leave it unattended, and like you said, have it run 10-12 hours with possibly power surges sent to it etc etc, and all you get out of this is, whatever ends up in the COIN BOX?? You have totally just made his life a piece of cake.

I would have asked for at least $100 from him plus whatever lands in the basket (which could potentially end up being like 5 bucks). And I feel like that's still an underestimation. But hey, that's just me.

Because he can and it's going to be restored.

Sorry for my paranoia but I just know what I went though to get mine, and it wasn't even in that great of shape. So, unless mine was put out for display purposes only, it's not leaving my house. ;)

I've had a few tron's over the years so finding another really isn't an issue. Again' I don't really care what happens to the game, it didn't cost me a dime and it's sitting in a garage corner doing nothing anyway. It's gonna sit in a highly vivible spot right next to a change machine so I expect it to get a lot more action than it would at my place. When the month is over, I'll decide whether to scrap it for parts or spend the time it takes to restore it. He gets the publicity and business, I get the money and the game back, works for me.

Damn, what's with all of the paranoia? I sent 14 of my games down to the NW Pinball and Game Room Show for 3 days where we had at least 1500 to 2000 people come and play them. My only casualties were a 6100 taking a crap (big surprise there) and 1 of the Battlezone centering bellows gave out.

At a minimum this is free beer money for Chris.

$

So are you going to charge 25 or 50 cents per play?

Soooooo one way to get a generous price would probably be to put the EDOT on Ebay the week before Christmas right after the movie releases.

Naaa.. to valuable to me.

but not invaluable. ;)
