I picked up a Tempest today from someone who just had it in there garage and dint know anything about. I got it home and pulled the power brick and checked it out, it was good powered up the boards and all was TPs were good, and plays fine. Plugged in the monitor and all I get is a single green vertical line. I did a once over on the chassis and all the fuses are good nothing is burnt. Before I pull it out and reflow the joints and start looking at other things. Does any one have any recommendations on what to look for?

Lots of burned up parts near P100 on the deflection chassis, and any burned parts on the HV board. Also, the PTC behind P100 will most likely have cold solder...

I know very little as is evident by my other thread on here, lol.

but maxstang came over when I had a similar issue and he fixed it by changing one of the frame mounted capacitor? not sure if it's called a capacitor or not, lol.

Well, the frame-mounted bottlecap transistors should be checked also, as well as lots of cold solder on the connectors to them...

Start there.
No blown fuses is a good thing.
Carefully check all the header pin solder joints plus the regular component joints.

Ok I just reflowed all the header pins, PTC and some other joints too. Now I have a little bit of a picture its just garbage on the upper half though. Spot killer comes on then off at boot like it should. The HV board led does not come on at all. I dont remember if it should or not. I didnt have time to night to pull the HV board, I have to remove the monitor to get to it.

The LED on the HV board is supposed to be off.
If your deflection boards LED is off (which on startup the LED does come on and then goes off) and you have a picture then either you've got a blown surface mount transistor and/or possibly the Tempest boardset has issues. As mentioned earlier you need to test those transistors.

surface mount? I think you mean chassis mount right? :D He'll be looking all week if he thinks he's looking for a surface mount transistor.

Thanks everyone for all the input. I checked all the chassis trans and they were good. I have a order going to Bob with some other stuff, and I will get the full rebuild kit anyway. I have a scope at a friends house I just need to go pick it up. Then I can test the board to see if I am getting good output from the board to begin with before I go rebuilding the monitor. I will let you know what I come up with.
