Making this thread just to track progress on this. I've been working towards making a Quantum cabaret for a bit and originally was planning on doing a scratch build with a Shillmover XY monitor kit and new cabinet. Last week though I was randomly looking around ebay listings and found a non-working Tempest cabaret. I'd priced everything out for getting a new cabinet, power supply, bezel glass, etc and ultimately figured this would be easier and a bit cheaper, plus I'd have an actual WG6100 to use.

So while a Tempest is "dying" for this, the only parts I really have to swap out are the control panel and marquee. I'm getting an adapter to plug a Quantum board into the Tempest harness, so it could be swapped back pretty easily.

After a road trip yesterday, I got it back and am starting to just do general cleanup/going through it. The owner said he'd had it for 20+ years but that it just started playing blind and then wouldn't boot at all. Took a look at the power brick and the F3 fuse was blown, so will check out the ARII and bridge rectifier on the brick first.

Overall looks good, definitely needs a vacuuming and clean up. Only part it was missing was the cardboard bezel, have messaged @joeycuda about getting a new one.

6100 looks good, does work, has some Tempest burn but that's not really an issue for me. Boards look like they've had some work before with an older LV2000 mod. HV was also missing the cover/shield.

So next steps,

1. Going through 6100 boards, Power Brick and AR-II
2. Quantum PCB/Adapter
3. Deciding on trackball size/location.

For that last one I made a thread about it but I'm leaning towards using a 2.25" trackball instead of a full size. It'll move a bit different but, as others have pointed out, there isn't as much room for hand movement on a cabaret sized panel. Just wanna do some play testing of it myself before punching out the blank cabaret panel I got.
