Got my Tempest going and into the gameroom a few weeks ago. It's the first Tempest I have owned or extensively played. Man what a sweet game. Can't believe it took me 7 years in the hobby to finally get one into the game room.

Tempest

Yes Tempest rocks! Mine is in the top 5 most played in my arcade.
It is currently my 3 year olds favorite game. He can get to level 6 after just discovering it last week. He now splits his gamming time between Pole position, Tempest and his candy crane.

Finally Phet, it's about time!!! It's a great game, but you forgot a few things.

Cool how the levels come into view when changing from one level to the next. Example:
when you get the first flat level, is sort of pans a little then swoops up.

Fast everything! wait until you get to the higher levels, people watching you will wonder how you can move and react fast enough to keep playing.

You have got to try tempest tubes. I have Clay's multi-kit, but you should still be able to do the ROM swap to play it. (isn't it tubes where there is a tube shapped like a side view of a boob?)

Congrats. I have thought about selling my Tempest CT, but for some reason I can't seem to actually part with it. I find myself drawn to the game where for like a month I will play it every day, but then eventually I walk away for a while. It is an awesome game and it's funny because many of my friends have never even heard of it. I have Clay's Multikit too, but I just haven't bothered installing it yet. Maybe I will some day, you never know.

Level 9 in Tubes is the sideboob. There are a couple other suggestive ones in there too.

The only thing better than a Tempest is a Tempest with an Amplifone in it.

Fixed.....

10 times better. My one 'I Love Tempest' thread will have 10x the coolness as the 10 "Marble Madness is the greatest" threads Fritz started.

Yeah... too bad Fritz has had a Tempest for going on 3 years now. Get with the program. Sheesh...

I agree, Tempest is amazing! I would love to get one... if only they were cheap enough. Tempest generally does not fit into my $100 game budget.

Dude you're in TX.. Aren't there like 15 warehouse purges going on right now on your block alone?

Are you using the cheat? Running up the score, ending with the right digits, next game you get to start on any level?

It was a big deal in 1984 if you knew how to do this. And it's something else about the game that makes it a cult classic.

I would love a Tempest. It's #1 on my want list and has been since I got my first machine working a few months ago. I have 9 now and still no Tempest.

I was big into Tempest 2000 and still play it now and then.. Big on Space Giraffe (not sure if that counts) and I even bought a nuon to play tempest 3000. So why don't I have a real Tempest machine? I really wanted to drive to Ohio when someone had one for sale there but it was over 7 hours one way. I should have done it :/

I have to stop buying cheap machines and let my arcade fund build up again so I'll have the cash when one shows up closer.

when I played it as a 10 or 11 year old, it was with the girl I had a crush on.... forever brings back great memories... It's on my list. I think I found a good deal on one...

if I only had more space...

Tempest rocks so hard that I have two. On in the cade, one in the shop.
My favorite color vector to play. Much better than Star Wars. Better than Major Havoc most of the time :)

So how many folks here have gotten to and/or past the black/invisible levels?

That's where the real fun begins :D ...

And yes, Tempest is to this day my favorite game of all time...just nudging out Robotron for that honor.

Did Tempest come with an Amplifone at some point? That's cool, didn't know that.

I don't think it did.

Didn't Arc say this in the multi vector thread:
It's a waste of 6100's in my book. Hate to see someone looking for one to complete a classic have to compete with people wanting one for mame crap.

So it's OK to put an Amp in a Tempest when someone may be looking for one to complete a classic that originally had one?

Just sayin...
